They had to do this, because lame duck coaches tend to do really, REALLY poorly. However, when was the last time Sheldon Keefe outcoached their opponent in the playoffs?
As a habs fan this is GREAT news.
Sheldon deserves another two shots. The team is still incomplete. What Treliving does to make it stronger and nastier is critical; Sheldon has never been given a playoff team.

It's kinda hyperbolic to say nothing has changed because it's a fact that things have changed. I guess what some mean is that the core is still here. To me, it's reasonable for the core and Keefe to have a season under Brad. Maybe we're just shuffling chairs on the Titanic. I still have about 60 years of life left to watch this team win something.
The pieces are starting to fall into place. With all the changes on the squad and front office it’s important to have that continuity on the bench. He’s also the most winning coach the Leafs have ever had.
Keefe should have been extended all along, the issue was never him cuz he guided the Leafs to a great winning record. I never did understand why the Leafs went to a fire-sale mode even though they defeated Tampa. Just because they got spanked by the Panthers in the second round, was that still NOT a successful season…?

Keefe's contract was extended because Mike Keenan turned down the Leafs to stay in charge of the Italian National Team.
Only Toronto Media can point out "getting out played" while winning a 6 game playoff series………it's a mental disorder. They won in less than the required games…..therefore they literally out played the team that lost more often…and more times. "They won 8-0 four times BUT!!!! it almost looked like the opposition could score…..i'm not sure if this group has what it takes" < Toronto media figures.

they overwhelmingly crushed every xG number against florida basically every game but 1
if tampa deserved to win round 1 because of their play
then the leafs deserved to win round 2
shit happened in both series but to discredit both the win and amplify the loss is just fuckin bullshit imo
the leafs florida series was essentially five 1 goal games it was likely the closest series in the second round by really any metrics ya wanna look at where either team could win any of the 5 games ultimately the leafs just couldnt score on bob and sammy let in some goals he shouldnt have
but its not like the team actually got outplayed in any of the games at all they were all over florida in games 1 2 4 and 5 (it was a terrible game 3 by a lot of metrics but they still had a better xG share)
What is his playoffs record?
You can't argue with his regular season record, but I'm still concerned by his inability or unwillingness to adapt his tactics to counter those of the opposition in the playoffs. When they were playing Florida, they needed to do a couple of simple things, and stubbornly refused… Simpler play. Fewer risky passes. Clean breakouts. HOLD the puck. SHOOT, don't wait for the perfect fancy play. Florida was a team of counterpunchers. Sure, Bobrovsky was playing well, but he didn't steal the series, the Leafs beat themselves by not adapting to Florida's tactics… and that's on KEEFE.

As a Lightning fan…I speak from not giving a damn perspective: Keefe has done nothing to NOT deserve this extension. He got them to be a dominant team during the regular season and (finally) got them out of the first round, with a REALLY young team. HE DESERVED THIS.
We all knew either dubas or Keefe had to go. Dubas went and tre has made some exciting moves. Let’s see what leafy keefy can do without dubas, kerfoot, and holl. It’s not like mlse can’t afford to pay him out if it goes sour. GLG
