He was an agitator who also knew how to generate offense. They’re usually popular with coaches and teammates.

Rangers should have kept him. He was such an awesome Ranger. Heard that before.
I didn't realize how long he stayed in the league. He was in two COMPLETELY different eras. He certainly fit into the former era much better. His last season was quite strong and would be notable/not of the norm for someone compiling that trajectory of stats over a career.
Got his autograph when he was a Penguin. He was great in Pittsburgh
Beast with the Rangers and Kings. Grimey and skilled.
i wonder about his currant health
Was a terrific player with the Rangers played in some real dirty ranger flyer games .
Love these career vids. Makes me get out my old hockey cards. Although always got him mixed up with Patrick Sundstrom.
He is known for scoring one of the most famous goals in Team Sweden history, 2-2 in the dying seconds vs the Soviet union in the Worlds 1987. Håkan Loob with the gorgous setup. Tommy Albelin and Bengt-Åke Gustafsson involved in the setup

Sandstrom fell down 8 times during this video.
Always fun to hear about the swedish players that where active during the time I got into hockey and hockey card collcting (mid 90s), brings back some nice memories.
Sandström woman golden for Sweden in WC 87
My brother and I used to have his hockey card, when he played for the Kings.
Sandpaper guy, it's in the name!
He was born in Finland as a son of Finnish/Swedish family and moved to Sweden as a child
I remember when the Wings traded for Sandstrom in ‘97 asking a Pens fan about his play style and his response was “big guy with some skill, known to use his stick as a weapon” and I responded jokingly with, “That’s exactly the guy we need.”
Really liked him in NHL '94!
Was very excited when he joined the Pens.
Ah yes, my favourite song is Tomas – Sandstorm
Thanks for memory lane. I remember him being the target of the Islanders in the years when they were still real competitive, with at least one bench clearing brawl at MSG being the result of a play with Sandstrom. Can't remember who sucker punched who . . .

. . .Ranger's fans can brush off their 28 jerseys. . .
I was a big fan of Tomas during his time with the Kings. Very underrated but loved by Kings fans.
