  1. It wouldve been funny to hear the reactions if Matthews signed for 3 inatead lol. When all is said and done, Matthews will be a Leaf longer than Mcdavid will be an Oiler. So who cares about 8. Colorado isnt winning another cup either with MacKinnon stooging himself.

  2. I know Kyper is just trying to be difficult for the sake of entertainment, which I respect, however I believe this deal is great for both sides. As a Leafs fan I almost feel more comfortable with only a 4 year deal. Who knows how good Matthews will be at age 31, remember that JT is only 32 right now and many people are calling his contract the worst in the league. For all we know, maybe Matthews will be slowed down by then, and may not even be able to get the same money he’s making now, or similar. I love Matthews and would love for him to be a Leaf for life, but 8 years is a long time, and I think it’s a bit much to expect players to be making commitments for 8 years. We have a kid from Arizona, wojld has already committed to playing 12 years in Canada, and I can’t really blame him for potentially wanting to reassess/get a raise when the cap rises. I think 8 year deals will soon be a thing of the pass, and you’ll see more and more players taking shorter contracts

  3. Love this Deal for the Leafs!!! At what point do we cut our losses with Marner though? How many playoffs do we have to watch him be scared to touch the puck? He's built for regular season and can't handle the toughness of playoff hockey. Need someone who isn't scared to go and get the puck and give it to Matthews.

  4. This is going to go down as one of the all time blunders for a franchise that has been blundering since 1967. This guy is soft, he's a floater and he has no heart. Leafs will regret this signing.

  5. I can count on one hand the amount of k&B episodes since they started. Why not give these guys a change at gm or coach of the leafs

  6. I agree with JB, Leafs got a good deal and so did Matthews . This will also encourage Matthews to play to his top potential if he is to sign another lucrative deal at the end of his contract. If he signed an 8 year deal, he could just coast to retirement.

  7. Don’t think he is worth that kind of money. Leaf fans should enjoy watching other teams win the cup.

  8. I can guarantee you that matthews will ask to be traded, not this year but the next one. And he will bring his contract with him. Athletes are asking for the bag and then to be traded when they get their number. You won't get his best year. we can all see his interview he has no loyalty or care about toronto other than money.

  9. Matthews averages 51 goals per 82 games (0.62 goals per game) which, in my view, makes him a generational talent when it comes to putting the puck in the net. True, his playoff performances often leave something to be desired but $13.25 mil sounds about right for a player of his caliber.

  10. What happens if the Leafs flame out in the first round every year of the next five? Seems to me every player should be evaluated on his contribution to reaching the Stanley Cup. I'm a Leaf fan and I'm glad they've got Matthews but he has done N_O_T_H_I_N_G in the playoffs.
