Interesting for 2 rivals to make this trade.I think Sturm is slightly better,& addresses our weaknesses better-Pk,faceoffs,& size.Jost probably has more upside,& potential,& he's signed next year. Slightly overpaid, but not terrible.
He never was gonna reach his potential here. Fresh start in Minnesota, where he won't have the burden of being their 10th pick in the draft…can just be who he is. Many Av fans could never get past Jost as the 10th pick. Id say last year-i kinda accepted he'd never live up to that, but appreciate what he is. He was elite deffensively for much of last season, but fell back some this year. Minnesota probably knew Sturm wasn't coming back,so they traded for a bit more upside, slightly younger & guy who's restricted vs unrestricted next season…for a slightly better player, who would be gone after the season.
But the biggest part for Colorado? We save like 1.3 million on the cap. Something else is likely coming…Giroux I hope. I can never pull for Minnesota-unless we need their help in the standings or something. But while I won't pull for the team…I will pull for Jost individually. Everybody says great dude,& team mate.
But Avs just got better in the last 2 days at their biggest weaknesses…size, toughness, dman depth-if Byrum doesn't come back,& with Girard out for a while. Also PK,& faceoffs. Now comes the luxury part hopefully-taking your forwards from elite,& clearly top 3 or 4…to maybe an embarrassment of riches, plus an elite faceoff guy,& every intangible you ever want…Claude Giroux. Enjoy your 1,000th game in Philly…hope to see ya soon.
And while I don't think Jost will ever remotely live up to the 10th pick-I could see him taking off a bit, with a change of scenery where nobody reminds him every day,he was a disappointing 10th pick. No Minnesota fan will care about that,if he plays well. Many Av fans did still care, even when he played pretty good.
But so far,Avs have had a good deadline…I think they go for great next, according to several people who probably would know…or at least have strong indications.
I like this deal from both sides Minnesota gets a solid young player if we can pan out with the Wild they could get a solid 2nd or 3rd line C and for the Avs they get a bigger guy whoâs cheaper like you said John to free some cap I like it from both sides of things.
Iâm a bit surprised by this because I know the Wild are a huge fan of Nico Sturm and he seemed like someone I thought they would keep long turn for their future as a depth player

Idk how I feel about this
NOOOOO Jost! đđ
He also sucks at face offs and the avs need face off wins
I just hope we get Giroux
Mr. Sakic better have a master plan but avs are still 2022 cup champs
Have never been sold on Jost. I like this for the Avs.
Yeah
I donât know what to feel about this.
Honestly Both team benefit but wild have the higher ceiling for success in the long run
Itâs a cap move, I agree John from Hot Take Hockey
I feel like the Wild made a bad trade l liked the way nico fit with the Wild lineup
Avs fan. I've been looking for Jost to breakout. Maybe this is what he needs. I wish him all the best!

I know itâs a good trade for the avs but Iâm gonna miss jost. I hope he does well with the mild

Why did they trade Sturm?
Trade works for both team! Sturm wasnât gonna resign in MN and Jost can play with talented players like Fiala and Boldy potentially
Tyson Jost needs a bigger opportunity to play 2nd line minutes and Nico Sturm is a great 4th liner that wins faceoffs and is decent defensively
John you know your stuff and I like that you can be objective. Thanks.
