February would be a terrible time to play a tourney like this. Players are in the middle of an NHL season. That's their bread and butter. They ( or their owners) can't risk injuries before the NHL playoffs. I love the idea of a best-on-best tourney, but it has to be after the Stanley Cup playoffs are over.

How hard is it to just schedule a game really. It’s not hard the NHL just wants to make sure they can get the most sponsors the most adds the most tickets the most coverage it’s all money. They could do a game this year if they wanted but they won’t because they want to capitalize on the money side.

This is the NHL playing catch up with the NBA and WBC, that rekindled Baseball interest worldwide, as a means to get TV deals with Apple or YouTube. ESPN is gonna drop the NHL first chance they get and the local TV deals are dead. NHL may die if something isn't done to get hockey interest up in the US specifically.
