  1. I wonder what happened with the Hughes situation at practice though I’m glad demko still wants to stay here it’s a relief honestly

  2. So Boeser and Kuzz with Dries. why two L.H. shooting wingers?? I like Lockwood, he is fiesty, and with a mean streak

  3. Hopefully Rick keeps shuffling lines for experimentation. Short term it should hurt results and assist the tank, but long term maybe we find some solid lines we didn't anticipate that helps the team.

  4. It sounds like Tocchet is incredibly positionally oriented. It's certainly a back-to-basics sort of approach that some NHLers would find condescending but for a team built around a lot of speed and finesse, it might be exactly what is needed to get them synchronized.
I myself was a defensive defenseman during my minor hockey tenure and positional play is far greater at keeping pucks out of your net than blocking shots or making big hits. I also had to suffer through hard practices when I put in all the requisite effort during a game and my teammates played like a bunch of bums. I still have my skepticisms about Tocchet but he is slowly winning my respect with his approach; if I was a Bantam or Midget hockey player, Tocchet would be a good resource learn and build from.
What will relieve my skepticisms would be knowing what happened at practice during battle drills. A battle drill is not a bad thing, however they can be abused by a bad coach or bad teammates. If Tocchet is setting the Canucks against one another, then he has lost my respect; if individual Canuck players are trying to purposefully harm one another during the drills, then they have lost my respect; but if some Canucks were mistakenly a bit rougher with Hughes than anticipated, or Hughes mistakenly felt slighted during the drill, then all is well.
In my minor hockey tenure, I have unfortunately been at the receiving end of bad coaches and bad teammates during battle drills. I remember leaving practice many times with my ribs bruised from the butt end of sticks, a coach who never disciplined dirty teammates, and even a coach who felt annoyed when I asked him to bandage my bleeding elbow after a practice.

  5. I honestly don't see the hype about Demko. He's a decent goalie that'll need a lot of defensive help around him to really be effective. Which sadly, the Canucks do not have. The Canucks also need to improve and fast on defense before Quinn gets annoyed at the Organization and starts becoming really unhappy. The Canucks need to focus on improving there defense, before the offense. Also, Demko had one good season. Probably a good idea to wait and see if he has multiple good seasons before calling him the starter for years to come. Career Save percentage of .909 and a GAA of 2.94. Also, six years in the NHL, 151 games played and only 2 shutouts isn't exactly great, it's below average. I do wish the Canucks luck tonight against the Rangers. As a Rangers fan, I shall be watching the game.
