OK Guys, so a few days back the Montreal Canadiens traded away rental defensemen Ben Chiarot to the Florida Panthers, in exchange for a “b” prospect, a 1st round draft pick in 2023, and a 4th round draft pick in 2022. In this video, I breakdown the deal and give my thoughts on the situation.

However I m saddened for the fact he was our best veteran defense men . And a beast . I wish 🤞 it had ve been a different situation with Petry , and Savard going ,and Wideman. However it was due to his contract being up at the end of the season . But I sure would ve rathered having him ,and Edmonston to mentor the kids.

All gud Homie!! Better late then never! Yah we did awesome on the deal. And I think that Smilanic is gonna be a good player man, Ive heard a lot of people compare him to Suzuki, a super hard worker, with a wicked shot, and super high hockey IQ. They didnt just throw Smilanic in as part of the deal, Habs wanted him. Check out a few highlight vids on youtube, there were a few up the day of the trade, probably a lot more now. Glad Chairot said he would like to re-sign with the habs in free agency. Only time will tell but I'd like to see him return with a shiny ring. Maybe get a second with the habs in a few years.

Loved Ben Chiarot as a Hab and gonna miss him but wow what a return for the Habs. A 1st Rd a 4th Rd and a prospect . And the 1st is unprotected. If Florida flops next year they are going to regret this trade. Great trade by Hugo – they hit it out of the park.
about Chariot, had to happen, he was the best deal we had available, there are some very good young prospects in the pipe already, and banking up on draft picks a la Sam Pollock can only make things more glorious for the future!!

The prospect is a bust, won’t be better than bottom 6. The 4th rounder is worthless. It’s all about that first rounder. The first rounder will most likely be a late one and it’s up to the habs to turn it into value. Can’t count on the panthers to flop next season since they’re simply too deep and can take on injuries and still put up fire power. The habs would need to pull off a first round steal and we won’t know the results in another 5 years.
I did not enjoy watching Chiarot lose fights.
The panthers are in a world of hurt next year, they have 10 unsigned players, Yandle’s dead cap jumps 3.05 million to a total of 5.391 million (they have a total dead cap of 6.575 million next year), Barkovs contract jumps 4.1 million to 10 million and Verhaeghe’s contact jumps 3.166 million to 4.166 million, thats 10.36 million being added on top of what was already there before. The only help is with l luongo’s 1.092 million coming off the recapture penalty. If they want giroux like people still think they do they would only be getting by with LTIR space. Also Patrick Hornqvist will be turning 36 with a cap hit of 5.3 mill (January 1st birthday is pretty cool though.) Mason Marchment will also be a lot more expensive then almost league min
