What Does Buffalo Do With Jeff Skinner?

Coming off three straight healthy scratches, it appears he is skating on their fourth line in practice. It’s not a recipe for success.

  1. If Buffalo is willing to eat at least half his contract I’d love to see skinner on the oilers to see if he can play with mcdavid or draisytl

  2. Skinner isn't the problem. At all. Look at this team. Its pretty clear what the problem is.

Listening to the GM today, I'm starting to think Ralph's replacement is in a Buffalo hotel riding out a quarantine (NYS covid regulations). His entire presser sounded word for word what you would say at the press conference announcing a coaching change. But they haven't fired him. It either Pegula is to cheap to pay another coach to go home (who's fault is that?) Or the next guy is already in a hotel.

  3. Overrated and not worth what he's making, 0 Goals. Big contracts are horrible unless you're Ovi.

  4. NHL GMs are too afraid of losing GOOD WILL, and they undervalue CAP SPACE. A really good example of this are the NY Islanders. When Tavares left the fan base thought the sky was falling for sure. With Tavares and Barzal they were one of the worst defensive teams in the league. Lou didn't blink an eye. He knew he had plenty of talent and one of the best coaches in the NHL Another lesson is that the man behind the bench is more important than any individual player, so the most economic way to make sure you're getting the best out of your team is paying attention and making sure you have the RIGHT GUY in that spot. Lou used the CAP SPACE that Tavares left behind to keep Lee, Eberle and Nelson on board with enough time to build around them. He was rewarded with an ECF run in the bubble. He's gonna have to do some wizardry because of Ladd's contract, but they'll have some outs. But you also need ownership that is willing to go beyond expectations to make sure you have the resources. Krueger is not working, and there are a lot of really good coaches who are unemployed. Who wouldn't want to coach that talent level?

  5. As a Canes fan I was really amped up with his fantastic rookie year and Calder win. However, he throws up a hatty once a month then disappears and is beyond abysmal on defense hence a career -122 rating. Buy him out Adams!

  6. Here's my question: say the Sabres find someone they like, but only enough to sign them to a one year deal. Boom, guy does well, maybe not get 40 goals like Skinner got in his first year with the Sabres, but something like 25 goals, 35 assists. So the Sabres decide that they want to keep this player for a long-term deal, and the guy is like, 25, 26 years old. Now, you don't want to give him too much money, because he just had a career year. Is it possible in the NHL to front-load the contract, like what the Pegulas have done in the past with the Buffalo Bills, where most of the money given to the player is in their first and second years of the contract? Just asking.

  7. You put Skinner with Eichel, have Cozens Center Hall and Olofsson and flip Staal at the deadline or let him go since he's not coming back next year anyways. Alternatively, send Olofsson to the 3rd line since he doesn't produce 5v5 anyways, and have Skinner take his spot on the top line. Olofsson being moved is pretty much the only option and the clearest once since no matter what youre not harming your 5v5 potential since Olofsson isn't good 5v5 and Skinner has the best 5v5 analytics on the team.

  8. The Sabres will never be good again. I know that, as a Sabres fan. There is seemingly no solution. Why the hell did Botterill the supposed “cap genius” pay skinner so much

  9. Why would they keep Hall though? I think Skinner could bounce back. Hall is getting a better opportunity and playing just as bad. It's Hall that's the bigger problem–let him walk after this season.

  10. Skinner needs to be with Eichel no matter what. I do love Oloff but only on the PP, & he can't score 5 on 5. They need to move Victor to the 3rd line and utilize the kid on the top Power Play unit.

  11. Can't be paying a guy that much to sit him or have him on 3rd or 4th line. He won't score many points with so little ice time.

  12. Skinner had a bad year last year cause they hired Krueger who made him play with plugs all season. Same this year. The problem is the coach’s boneheaded decisions.

  13. Do not resign Hall. Play Skinner under a new coach next year in the top 6. Good chance he bounces back to a 20 goal scorer under a competent veteran coach like Gallant or Boudreau. If he still stinks in 2023, then I buy him out with a much less long term cap hit. You simply cannot eat 2.5 million for that long.

  14. Please remove your cap and your jersey. Nobody can take your review seriousl y with you wearing this, I am sorry. Now put on a circus clown suit, a big red nose and claim you are Ralph Kruger and I'll listen.

  15. Why is it when I heard the word "Sabers" and the word "buy-out" I immediately thought of the word "SKINNER!"

    -Superintendent Adams

  16. Buffalo being Buffalo they’d probably trade a bunch of picks to Seattle for them to eat his contract and then Skinner proceeds to boss it there 😂😂

  17. The organisations should be allowed to terminate contracts that end up like this one tbh, they're fked for years to come

  18. Skinner needs to dig deep and forget his past. Just meet up at training camp in shape and play hard. He could end up with a Nice comeback season. 20 goals and 25 assists. Up to him.
