  1. which is why you are FAILING as a coach!!! You're not going to be saying that when we get swept in the 1st round.. If we even make it in

  2. We better hope we don't run into those referees in the playoffs. I can't remember seeing a team of referees so obviously determined to get a result

  3. Alas, however Ullmark, from the start of the game, gave the impression that he was going to be a wall impossible to cross tonight. End of the first period: 2-0 Bruins. Intermission. And then… boom! Again the bad luck that invites itself to the dance. Ullmark was injured in the opening period and will therefore not return for the remainder of the game. Swayman takes over in the second period but he will be a victim of his same usual weaknesses. However, in the third period, he will be impeccable. Honorable mention to Curtis Lazar, a combative player totally dedicated to his team. Flagrant errors of the referees in the second period: on the punishment awarded to Bergeron (when he had not hung) and that against Marchand (who had not presented the leg but the right shoulder). Coach Cassidy sometimes showed frustration but above all (and this is worrying) the haggard look of a desperate man. For the rest, no comment.

  4. I’m more concerned about a couple things the the constant penalties, giving up goals in the last minutes in a period or early at the beginning, the terrible play in their own end not being able to get the puck out for the life of them and the BRUTAL power play they are 0-23 in their last bunch of games.

  5. I say rest all the core guys until the Toronto game and ramp it up against them as they’re not a physical team. I think we’re pretty much stuck in first wildcard now unfortunately especially with the schedule and injuries.

  6. welp im glad he's not frustrated. im pissed. now the injuries are mounting like crazy and they are going to have a brutal time in round one at full strength.

  7. First round exits. Been saying it all year and now everything I said is coming true. Lack of depth defensively, scoring is an issue as always and unless the goalies stand on their head we lose. Struggle vs bad teams. Can’t beat good teams. This team is toast vs Carolina or Florida round 1.

  8. I think Butch is trying to put a good face on for the media/public- he is absolutely frustrated.

The Bs have a few major problems lately compared to their recent winning ways, as I see them:

    – they cannot seem to give a 60-min. effort consistently. I don’t know why this is the case, and neither does Butch, but they either don’t start with energy (skating, winning puck possession, etc.) or they don’t finish with it. The fact that they have allowed so many goals in the last minute or so of a period is evidence of this.

    – they do not play with enough physicality as a team (Lazar is the consistent exception) …especially on the forecheck. As a result, the opponents D men are not looking over their shoulder enough, and have time to make plays out of their end easily. Compare this with how much trouble they usually have getting out of their own zone.

    – their execution is awful…in all 3 zones. Passes are off by a lot and they can’t hit the net with a boat oar. They are overthinking or making bad decisions with the puck, which leads to breakaways and odd man rushes by the other team. They are passing when they should be shooting, and vice versa. Nowhere is this clearer than on their 0 for 24 PP. When your PP is struggling, you need to simplify your strategy – shots from the point with traffic in front of the net; Cassidy calls this inside ice, and the Bs don’t get there consistently.

A few things that, IMO are NOT the cause of their lousy play of late:

Injuries – sure we miss Pasta, Carlo and Lindholm, but we have won when key players (Bergy, Marchand, McEvoy) have been out before

Goaltending – both Ullmark and Swayman have usually (with rare exceptions) been outstanding and have kept the Bs in games all season long Swayman’s performance last night as an example- though of late he had had rebound control issues.

The officiating – it has been awful and inconsistent for a long time and that won’t change. The fact that the NHL calls Marchand for penalties ignoring the actual play and based on his past reputation, also will not change. But if the Bs play the way they should, they would take poor officiating out of the equation – especially in the playoffs when the standards change -absurdly – and the refs “let them play.” You NEVER want to leave the outcome of a game in the hands of the officials.

  9. Get Hall off the PP.. He has become the Jake Debrusk of last season. Hall is afraid to shoot and always looks to pass. The PP has been garbage since Pasta has been hurt/out.
