Why Does THG Hate the Canucks?

I wanted to talk about this since it is often discussed online. (Yes, I meant Guenther not Gauthier)

  1. I, like THG, dont hate the Canucks, I wish them all the best and wish they were better

    However

    – Prospect pipeline is ranked among the worst in the league
    – Basically no expert have them making the playoffs
    – They are capped out, at least
    – Outside of a few players, they cant make a trade without giving the player away or add a pick
    – Meaning their players are overpaid and/or not very good
    – Tocchet has not achieved anything before as a head coach
    – The results of last 30 games were good, but they had the 2nd easiest schedule in the league
    – The coach responsible for the very good PP was fired
    – The NEW doctors department did at least by the look of it a bad handling of Pearson
    – They continue to take short cuts like trading for Hronek. Yzerman traded him away and signed 2 new RD so its not as if he had to many RD

    Need I go on….?

  2. It's an eternal loop of sympathy and frustration looking at the Canucks and not being a fan of the team. Same with the Sabres really. The only team that raises more emotions in me is the Stars as that is my team, but those two come close.

Always root for them when Stars are out of the running and always hope that they don't do something boneheaded that sets them back.

Sabres are in a good place right now and there's hope, I wish that Canucks could be there too in a couple of years, less hopeful on that though.

  3. The Canucks really really need to hire a veteran capologist. As a Jets fan, I can say Meyers was extended nicely but so overpaid. Some GM's need that guy they can go to and ask the question that needs to be asked. Can we make this work? Or is the risk/reward not practical?

  4. Tocchet and his army of coaches will get this team into the playoffs… i believe šŸ™ šŸ˜…

  5. For everyone who complains about when players sign extensions, but not max extensions for 7 or 8 years because that clearly means said player doesnā€™t want to be with the team long term, what are they gonna say when 7 and 8 year deals donā€™t exist anymore? Something tells me the next CBA will do away with those lengthy deals and reduce the maximum term of contracts to either 4 or 5 years, while maintaining the incumbent teamā€™s ability over all other teams to offer an additional year, so it might not be very long before max term contracts in the NHL look something more like 4+1 or 5+1. Obviously, the salary scale/percentages would change alongside it, but thatā€™s a different conversation.

  6. Reality vs What we want from our teams is almost always very different things šŸ˜‚

  7. The handling of Bruce Boudreau did NOT generate a positive impression of the new upper management. They have a mountain to climb to redeem themselves. The handling of Boudreau still bothers me as well! However, as the new season approaches, the upper management & coaching staff MUST demonstrate THIS season that the new choices & approaches filter thru to each & every player & thus us, the fan base, will regain our confidence. Greater Vancouver is definitely a 'hockey town', with many NHL stars raised in the area. Onward & upward!!šŸ’šŸ‘

  8. If Guenther becomes anything close to projected in the NHL, that trade has to go down as one of the worst trades of all time right? the sheer stupidity involved is mindblowing

  9. Canucks forward-lines could be sick actually. They should have 3 scoring lines. Really good group of forwards.

  10. You'd have to be on some weapon grade Kool-Aid as a Canucks' fan to be super positive after the drag we've been taken on over the last decade. It's the trading away all their high draft picks, bringing in a ton of free agents every summer that don't work out, missing the playoffs, and struggling with the salary cap that might have some people thinking things aren't being run very well. The Canucks are the mystery team with a ton of question marks and a lack of stability. It doesn't make it better when the current management seem incapable of handling basic management decisions without being either incompetent, cruel, or both to their own people and their fanbase. It definitely doesn't help when we see teams (like the Rangers) who we should be on the same rebuild track with doing well over the last few seasons.

  11. definitely one of the worst run organizations in the entire league. I cant see how anyone can be a fan of this team or the city

  12. Rick Tuckett has made an impact on some guys' games, such as Peterson and Miller. I'd like to see boeser get his drive from tuckett next.

  13. Canucks management seems extremely incompetent. They have had no clear direction for years and make questionable decision after questionable decision.

  14. There's a difference between hate and just being realistic. I'm an Oilers fan but after they went to the cup final in 06, they didn't make the playoffs for over a decade. And you better believe during that time I was very pessimistic, and realistically hard on them, even though I still loved them.

  15. I think any actual canucks fan hates the canucks. We suck so bad and it kinda feels like that will never change

  16. i have never felt you hated any teams. can definitely tell some teams are not your cup of tea but you have never been unfairly harsh to them.

  17. While they may occasionally go overboard, the fan who is more critical of their team is probably the most fair and rational of fans.

  18. Cleaning up Jim's mess is going to take a while to do. Its gona be longer if petty doesnt resign, On the plus side after next season vancouver has 36million coming off the books (not including a new contract for petty)

  19. Donā€™t see this as hate, my man is just being realistic. One of the reasons I love THG is the non-biased stance he takes on all teams.

  20. haven't been watching that many Vancouver games its hard to be a fan up and down and drama

  21. For the few years i have been watching your channel, i have thought you don't really like the Canucks…

  22. Your hate for the Canucks is the reason why they havenā€™t won a cup yet. Benning is also in on you.

  23. It is so hard to be a Canadian fan in the NHL. I'm surprised more Canadian fans don't hate their teams. I started watching hockey enthusiastically in 1967-68. I was fully in for 1969-70 as a ten year old and my team The Canadiens missed the playoffs. Next year they went on an epic playoff run and I was sold on the league, on the game and on the team. I had as easy a move into hockey fandom as anyone could have. My team from 71 on was competitive, always a threat to win the cup and they went on to win 6 cups in the 1970's , one in 1986 and probably the luckiest cup in the last 50 years with their win in 93. I have watched 8 victorious Stanley cup runs in my time as a fan .
Toronto fans haven't won since 1967. Vancouver (and Buffalo) and Winnipeg in both iterations have never won. Calgary won once in 1989. Edmonton won 5 times in 1984,85,87 and 88 and 90. Ottawa has never won.
It's brutal. No cup victories in 30 years from six teams.

But Vancouver has been around since 1971/72 and they have mostly been horrible with a couple flashing moments. Any team that just over and over again attempts to shore things up enough to make the playoffs is going to be in trouble.
Oh that trade was so stupid. At the time I'm thinking they were a year away from getting out from under Ericksson, Beagle and Roussel. They had finally waited it out. If they had done nothing they would have been better off. I think they were afraid to be seen doing nothing and just losing the players so they took a chance but it was a poorly calculated chance, especially when doing nothing is superior.

  24. So basically, in recent years the Canucks are terrible at drafting and throw money around irresponsibly.

And this is different from the rest of their history how? šŸ˜‰

  25. The Problem With The NHL Is Pride Night This Is Why Most Fans Are Angry Because Of The LGBT Is Over Promoted In The NHL Not Because Of The Vancouver Canucks

  26. Vancouver is a dogā€™s breakfast, but not a playoff team. With the record, Canadian teams must excel to even have a chance. Vancouver has consistently underperformed in every aspect. So sad.
