New York Islanders Scoreboard Watch: Barzal injury, Engvall steps up, Horvat snake-bitten, and more

James and Jon scoreboard watch as the New York Islanders hunt for a spot in the NHL playoffs against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Florida Panthers. Will the Islanders’ strength of schedule work in their favor? Mathew Barzal also remains out of the lineup, and Bo Horvat is snake-bitten, but Pierre continues to show up on the scoresheet. Should the Islanders call up Arnaud Durandeau and send down Simon Holmstrom to give them a jump?

All this and more in this week’s episode.

  1. The Islanders are doing the right thing with Dufour, when he came up it was obvious that the game was too fast for him. Leave him at the AHL level for now and build his confidence and his game. As for Holmstrom he is in the same boat with Wally and Dobson, don't forget that Lou went out of his way to get him in his draft year, consensus was he would go second round, but Lou was sure that if he waited the kid would go before he got another chance. Since Wally got hurt that gave Lamoriello the opportunity to get a good long look.

  2. I would really love to see Iskhakov play with Barzal and Horvat. Horvat takes care of the d zone, while Iskhakov and Barzal can keep the puck all day. I worry about Iskhakov's stature. One big hit, like what happened at UConn, and he's done. I think Lou wants to make sure that Iskhakov is as fully prepared as he can (strength, experience in N.A. hockey at the pro level) before bringing him up. Next fall in training camp might be Iskhakov's real shot. Should the Isles make the playoffs, he could be a black ace, too.
    Thanks for the show.

  3. I do like Aho and am glad he has been given a chance to play this year. He has 21 points, on pace for close to 25, is sitting at +6 and in his first full season. I'm also pumped to see Bolduc back up again. He's going to be a good one and can help this team with the offense.
Isles just need to play Toronto like they did the first time 91 came back with the Leafs.
