So if you’re a Spectrum customer who woke up this morning to find that all of the Disney owned channels have been blacked out on your system, [here’s why](https://apnews.com/article/espn-disney-spectrum-cable-dispute-aa16cf8eb9447b2956fb31f8a279f86d).
Apparently putting 6 games per year per team on what amounts to PPV status wasn’t evil enough, so now they’ve pulled all of the ESPN’s, ABC, and probably TNT (I didn’t check) off Spectrum.
While they attempt to chicken-wing Spectrum into a new deal, the’r suggesting that you subscribe to [Hulu+ Live](https://www.cbsnews.com/news/disney-charter-spectrum-cable-television-dispute/) as an alternative so you can watch your local programming on ABC, and all the great content that you were able to enjoy before Disney bought everything.
ESPN, of course, had Things to Say™, which got picked up by former provider of NHL Programming NBC and discussed [here](https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/espn-issues-statement-regarding-spectrum-cable-dispute).
I’m not exactly a Spectrum fanboi, but could this *be* more on-brand for The Mouse? And more to the point, either Bettman didn’t see any of this coming when he signed the new deal with Disney, or he’s getting a taste of the ransom.
Discuss.

I really hate Spectrum…..and I really hate ESPN.
I really don’t know who to hate more here.
YouTube TV is also an acceptable choice.
BLUF: the spat between Disney and Spectrum/Charter is an indication of how cable continues to fail. Maintaining a massive sink legacy infrastructure is expensive. Add on that demands from content providers who are seeing a massive shift in consumption (streaming v ticket revenues, declining ad dollars during or inflationary period).
All this means one thing: $300/month Spectrum will cost more, or provide less for the same price.
Get rid of their legacy (and frankly inferior) product. Explore HuluTV, YouTube TV, Fubo TV, and the other streaming TV providers. You will save money, get better service, not be subject to the frequent platform downtime, and not have to rent expensive equipment.
Spectrum wants out of the cable business as it currently exists. They’ve said this much during this whole ordeal as loses them money at this point
Okay but for us locally Canes are going to be on Bally right. Does YouTubeTV, Hulu etc., carry Bally? That’s my concern.
This is a constant battle between content providers and cable providers. Sinclair/Ballys were ready to do the same thing in 2022. Disney just has far more popular content that people want to watch.
Direct TC stream service is the only viable option if you want to keep Bally sports. Unless you’re cool with paying $20/month just for canes games.
Can we still watch most games on Bally?
May I introduce everyone to FuboTv?
I mean in my area DirecTV and DirecTV Stream dropped NBC. So it seems like TV providers and TV networks all across can’t reach deals.
None of this is new. I dropped cable years ago and finally landed on Hulu w live tv. Between Spectrum Cable only (500mbps) and Hulu it costs me 185 a month. So much sports I can’t even watch it all. Channels change sometimes, usually for the better. Cable tv is a dinosaur.
Can someone make a post in a month for how I watch this sport at that point? Every year I check in if the NHL wants my money to view their sport and every year they fail to deliver something that doesn’t require a VPN or the snot bubble that is paying for cable.
This has been going on since Saturday
Acting like this is a cable tv only issue is hilarious. The same thing played out between Disney and YoutubeTV two years ago. Disney is increasing what they want from the TV providers because they keep committing astronomical amounts to show college football (as well as other things) and they have to pay for it somehow. So they go after the carriers for higher fees. Of course the carriers don’t want to pay as much because they have to either charge their customers more and risk losing them or make less money (or lose more money if you are gullible enough to believe that talking point). It’s greed all around. The leagues/conferences, Disney, the carriers. And of course, at least in college football, all this conference reshuffling BS is to chase even more dollars from ESPN, Fox, etc. At some point, there won’t be more $$ for these conference reshuffles but they will still do it in the hopes. It’s beyond stupid.
Fuck Disney for being greedy and monopolistic, but also fuck spectrum too
Disney does nothing but screw stuff up thanks to their greed and blatant lack of care, but this is also bullshit because spectrum has a monopoly on tv in most (if not all) of NC. No other providers (that are available to everyone) offer the ESPN Networks, TNT, TBS, ABC and Bally all together (that I know of), so thanks to both current and past actions of both companies, we’re fucked
