Serious injury in a game between the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday, October 24th, 2011 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
This is the saddest injury that I have ever seen because it ended the players career and was entirely preventable. If Pronger had been wearing a visor the injury likely wouldn't have caught him in the eye and the injury wouldn't have been nearly as bad as it was
Pronger was the last defenseman in the NHL who could control a game just by being present on the ice. He is one of few players to bring a team to a cup in his first year with them (Edmonton, Anaheim, Philadelphia)
It’s a real shame more players aren’t killed or injured. I’ll hate ice hockey and those who chose to play it until they stop their moronic and violent fights
I was at this game when it happened. His scream filled the stadium, we all fell silent when we heard it. What the camera doesn't show is a big fight broke out because of it.
As a Blues fan, I was initially upset when Brendan Shanahan was traded to the Whalers for him, but quickly came to love the trade as Pronger developed into one of the best defensemen in the league. He and Al MacInnis made one of the best defensemen tandems ever, and I was sad when Pronger left. Even more sad to see his career end this way.
Rule 60 – High-sticking 60.1 High-sticking – For “high-sticking the puck”, refer to Rule 80. A “high stick” is one which is carried above the height of the opponent’s shoulders. Players must be in control and responsible for their stick. However, a player is permitted accidental contact on an opponent if the act is committed as a normal windup or follow through of a shooting motion, or accidental contact on the opposing center who is bent over during the course of a face-off. A wild swing at a bouncing puck would not be considered a normal windup or follow through and any contact to an opponent above the height of the shoulders shall be penalized accordingly. If ever someone was deserving of an accidental high stick it’s Pronger!!! He was dirty and mean!!! Listen to some Chris Pronger stories sometime!! Not a good dude!! I know it’s not how karma works but that is instant karma!!
First time watching this since seeing it live. His pained screams still send shivers up my spine. One of the scariest things I’ve ever seen. Sucks his career had to end like this.

Those are also the screams soccer players make when they get hair gel sweat into their eyes
Sadly this was the last time Chris Pronger played a game in the NHL.
Pronger had this coming
Man, the screams, the reaction, this is why this is the one of the worst injuries I’ve ever seen
That one sucked. Great player . Shouldn’t have went out like that

When a guy that tough makes those sounds, you know there is something seriously wrong

It’s really too bad this ended his career he had another like 2 or 3 years left in career before this
The Bryan Berard / Hossa high stick was just as bad. Don’t think a visor would have mattered with either high stick.
Owwwwww
So horrific to see.
Hope he feels better it wasn't his fault the player missed the shot
Only to think a visor would have prevented it
What goes around, comes around, Pronger. Karma is a bit**.

He was the best all around defenseman I've ever seen. ❤

How was there no penalty?

Deserved it for all the dirty stuff he pulled over the years including injuring others and getting away with it. You reap what you sow!
And this is why you wear visors… Trying to act all macho without one. Didn't look so macho now.
Aired during before the beginning to Batman Begins on TNT on Monday October 24th 2011.
Moral of the story. Wear a visor.
Nice seeing players like this get what they deserve
No penalty, huh? 🤷🏼♂️
