Will The Edmonton Oilers Sacrifice OFFENSE FOR DEFENSE? #NHL

The Edmonton Oilers are now just six weeks away from the Regular Season, and fans are already clamoring to see what the team does on the ice this season! But will the Edmonton Oilers actually regress offensively to supplement more defense?

  1. While 8 or 9 more wins would be great even 8 or 9 more Bettman points would give us 117 or 118 points on the season if we win the SAME amount of games. That should win the division. Yes, the goal is to win (the Cup) ultimately but it's game by game. Even if Connor gets 135 points (and Leon 130) they're still #1 and #2 in the League. How about if some of our Depth beyond the first 2 lines scores more. That would improve the probability of wins a LOT. Great vid as always. Have a great long weekend and take care all.

  2. I agree the Oilers don’t necessarily have to play more defensively. I think if they consistently play as 5 man units then they will probably give up less goals and they will probably score just as many maybe even more. Doesn’t mean Connor and Leon will score as many points this year as last year but maybe other less known players will score more. Connor and Leon could probably cut their minutes a little so they aren’t so tired out and who knows then they might even score more if that’s possible.

  3. one goal games is what matters in the playoffs , i doubt oilers get better defensively but maybe they'll prove me wrong

  4. friendly reminder that Oilers had a GA of 3.5 and a GF of 3.6 in the playoffs. in 2022 Oilers had a GA of 3.7 and a GF of 4. Defense is definitely an issue when you face actual good teams come playoff time and this team will just keep getting crushed in the playoffs till they realize that, in the last 15 years no cup champion had a GA per game above 3.

  5. Oilers are going to play more zone defence after the playoff breakdown. This will keep the shots to the outside and keep the front of the net clearer. We may not score quite as many breakaways but the offense shouldn't drop much.
