Montreal Canadiens’ Jake Evans takes a vicious hit as he scores vs. Winnipeg Jets 6/2/21

Evans’ empty net goal finished off the scoring in Montreal’s 5-3 victory in game 1 of the series with Winnipeg. Unfortunately, the Jets’ Mark Scheifele knocked Evans out with a vicious hit and Evans had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher. This wasn’t the first time that Evans had to be stretchered off the ice, as it also happened in 2018: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgU-urxzrt4

  1. Tough one. Kadri gets 8 for a blind side that isn't really that blind …how do you judge " intent" or clean hit vs intent to injure.

  2. Hard hit in the end but a fair one. No where in hockey do you just let them score…. ok maybe with the Canucks.

  3. Disgraceful!! He should be made an example of and find up his wasu with a suspension carrying on into next year!! What a douchebag!! He obviously was pissed off about his shitty performance so he takes the easy way out!!
What a tool, great for the kids to watch!!

  4. If evans had his head up he would have seen the train coming. This looks like a legal check to me – Evans had the puck. Sheifele stopped skating “charging” at the blue line. That’s a long way to coast. Too bad pro hockey players skate fast and weigh a lot. I don’t like seeing hits like this or injuries occur I hope Evans is ok. Suspending Sheifele is not the correct call in my opinion.

  5. This is a legal hit. It only looks bad because dude didn’t get up. Keep your head up. All the Habs player had in mind was scoring and he forgot the fundamentals. Anyone can see that dude was going to go around the net. Come on people. So next time he does what. Let him by. Then he does that and people get pissed why didn’t he hit him.

  6. CLEAN HIT EVANS HAD PUCK, IF YOU SUSPEND WPG …THE LEAGUE PLAYERS WILL ALL SKATE WITH THERE HEADS DOWN WANTING A PENALTY,,. Clean hard hits are part of hockey. Montreal BABIES

  7. Dirty hit after the play. Evans could have have his neck broken, both from the elbow and then when he fell on the ice head first.

  8. What a piece of sh**, that guy should never be allowed to play again.

  9. Absolutely bo attempt to stop the goal, from the bluline in Sheifele was 100% focussed on destroying Evans, and remember that POS Shiefele is 3" taller and 25lbs heavier than Jake!

  10. CLEAN HIT!!! EVANS, KEEP YOUR DAMN HEAD UP NEXT TIME!!!! THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR WANTING AN EMPTY NET GOAL SO BADLY!!! SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAYING ATTENTION

  11. You know what is sad? They changed the icing rule because of plays like this and fans are clueless today.

  12. Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele was suspended for four games for his "vicious" hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans.

The discipline was handed down by the NHL's Department of Player Safety during a phone hearing on Thursday.

The department explained in a video that Scheifele's play was considered charging due to the distance travelled to hit an opponent.

"Scheifele, moving with excessive momentum gained from traveling a considerable distance, finishes his check violently and with unwarranted force into Evans, making significant contact in the process and causing an injury."

The video also said the Department of Player Safety determined that Scheifele's intention was not to make a play on the puck.

"It is apparent to our department that his intention on this play is to deliver a hard, violent check to an opponent with the outcome of both the play and the game already having been decided."

  13. it would have been fine if it was Montreal hit em cuz we all know that the refs or bias
    to Montreal

  14. I am furious about that hit! I totally understand being competitive and wanting to win, unfortunately, you poked the beast, called the Montreal Canadiens and their loyal fans! Winnipeg is gone in 4!!

  15. scheifele was mad many times in this game and he looks like charles
manson or the guy in amityville movie. he still dont realize what he has
done and thinks 4 games suspension is too much. that shows clearly how
players are not aware of the other players safety on the ice and just
dont care about them. poor evans could have health problems for the rest
of his life and could have got paralyzed or even die. think of his
family and think of young players who see this violence of hockey. it
just has no place in there and should be punished alot more strongly.
nhl has to give bigger suspensions to stop those players from doing such
bad hits and injure other players with not much consequences for their
    actions.

  16. Learn the rules. Not a dirty hit. I'd anything the guy needs to lift his head up or don't handle the puck.
