  1. considering he pretty much won the game for the leafs. what more do you want from him. some weird narratives this playoff.

  2. No one is gonna be calling Samsonov an all time great any time soon, but I don't think it can be disputed that he was integral to the Leafs being able to squeak by with a win in Game 3. The fact is that the Lightning were running rampant over the Leafs for like 90% of the game, and Samsonov had to make a LOT of important saves to keep his team in the game. And it's fair to say that it wasn't a GREAT performance from him, but it was good enough to help defeat the Lightning, which is the most important thing.

I'd rather the Leafs NOT let a game get to the point where their goaltender has the whole thing riding on their shoulders, but the Lightning are one of those teams where when they have momentum on their side, it's REALLY tough to stop them. They've done great these last few years for a reason. And it's miserable for a goalie to be put in that position, but when the pressure was on Samsonov's shoulders, he delivered. The Leafs shouldn't have won this last game, but they DID, and he deserves a lot of the credit for that.

Again, Samsonov is not the best goalie out there, but he IS good. Good enough to win a game the Leafs should have lost, while Vasilevski, a TERRIFYINGLY good goalie, lost a game Tampa should have won. At the end of the day, when you're in the playoffs, all those extra stats and comparisons don't matter. All that matters are wins and losses, and Samsonov delivered the Leafs an important win.

  3. He is a backup goalie all day long but they don’t have anybody else. 😮

  4. Remember what the Avs said when they won? You can still win with OK goal tending (Keumper)

  5. as a member of the Goaltender's Union, I have to say, he's getting the wins. That being said, he makes me nervous as hell when he's between the pipes. He over reacts to each save it seems and he ends up literally out of his net. His angles are way off – he tends to cheat to the short side – by a lot (which is probably why he slides out of his net half the time). Tampa's 4th goal was a perfect example, despite the fact that there was traffic at the short side of the net, he cheated to that side anyways, giving him no chance on a perfectly placed shot to the opposite post. He also seems to struggle covering the puck in scrambles. Fundamentally, he needs work – stick is rarely on the ice… etc. I for one would welcome Matt Murray back – he's a true battler.
BTW – I got all the d-men Except Cory Cross – I got Rick Lanz right away -big OT winner vs St. Louis.
