Luke Hughes had a huge impact on the New Jersey Devils roster despite playing in a limited amount of games. He was a huge asset during the second round of the playoffs against the Carolina Hurricanes. The pending 2023-24 season is set to be his official rookie year in the NHL. Chicago Blackhawks first overall selection, Connor Bedard, is the favorite to win the Calder Trophy. However, Hughes also has a legitimate case as to why he should win rookie of the year in 2024.

20:56 I'm with you. I think people need to relax and let Badard actually play before judging his NHL level. Some people are already calling for him to be captain and again can he play a game before people start throwing responsibility at him?
Anyway on to Luke, I'm excited to see what he can do but the voting is so subjective for those trophies even if Luke deserves it, he won't win. Just like Jack, Nico, and Lindy.
Luke will have some stiff competition: Fantilli, Cooley, possibly Levi if he goes on a tear, and the obvious Bedard just to name a few. Hopefully he just continues to show us what he did in that small sample size last year and he/NJD will be in great shape this season
