You sound kinda young. I'm guessing you weren't around in 1986. I remember it quite well. I've been watching the Red Wings since they rose from the ashes in the late 1980's. Yzerman was drafted in 1983. He didn't get to the cup finals until 1995 and didn't win a championship till 97. My guess is we're still 7 to 10 years out from being a serious contender. Goalies can take up to 5 years to develop. Although I'm guessing we'll see Cossa sooner then later. It's going to be a long road to the top again. Sit back and enjoy the ride. There will be a lot of pain along the way. I got to watch 30 years of some of the best hockey imaginable. I had no illusions it would last forever. I knew it would it end someday. I saw it all back then. I was watching the night Patrick Roy was blown out in Montreal. I got to see many of Yzerman's highlight goals live including his double OT winner. I got to watch the Russian 5. I was watching the night Drapes got his face smashed. I was watching the night of the March brawl at the Joe. I watched every game in 2002 the year we had all of the hall of fame players. I saw many of Datsyuk's highlights live. One day you can say the same about current players.
