After sleeping on it I can see Hronek is a young RHD and that's what this team needed. I wasn't happy it was the clever pick we acquired from the Islanders in the Horvat trade, but maybe management think the Islanders will make the playoffs making the condition on the pick not fall in the canucks favour. Trades are out of our control so let's see how the offseason goes, then go into training camp with Bedard, then plan a cup parade route 😉
Let's see what he does before we chuck a wobbler over this trade, even if that 1st rounder shouldn't have been included (a 2nd and another piece should have been appropriate). I saw a friend have a near meltdown over the Horvat trade, and honestly I'm happy for Horvat going somewhere with less stupid media pressure. Beauvillier has proven to be a great pickup. Not a replacement for Horvat, but a genuine top six who has great hand-eye coordination (a big deal for tipping pucks when a guy like Hugs is firing them from the point).
Hronek is damaged goods. He had a major concussion in Dec from Ryan Reeves hit. Allvin and Chipmucks are the best clown show in the city.
Kind of torn about the trade. Trying to look on the bright side: On the ice, glad the Canucks finally got a young talented RHD. On the business side, I'm not happy they gave up the conditional first and a second. They are in cap hell, with a bunch of assets they will have to unload on the cheap because teams know the Canucks will be desperate to become cap compliant. Not sure if the Canucks couldn't have waited until the summer to get their RHD when other teams will be unloading players to stay cap compliant. Overall, after sleeping on it, I think the Canucks made a huge mistake giving up the picks. Thanks Clay!

I'd agree, this was a trade the Canucks kind of had to make. They need an upgrade at defense badly. Hronek I believe will be much better, next year. After the Reaves hit, he really hasn't been the same. So I think after he has a chance to fully recover after the season is over, he'll look a lot better starting next season.
Management has been retooling for better part of a decade, with one playoff run, is this where it pays off? We’ll see I guess
As a lifelong wings fan who has watched every wings game hronek has played, you're not going to be happy. I would have dealt him for a 2nd, just to get out from under the $5.5M owed him next year.
Giving up a first and second round pick was a massive over payment. Please don’t give this new management a free pass. This was an epic fail. Maybe ownership pushed this terrible decision

Hey Klay I am also not surprised of this trade we had to replace Schenn with someone who can take on those minutes along with Hughes. He's a top 4 defencemen and
those guys don't come cheap.

If it was are only 1st round then ya it might not make sense. But we have 2 , first round picks. So getting a guaranteed top pairing defenseman plus bedard people stop crying. Guy hasn't play a single game yet. Plus

Here we are four years after the Miller trade to Vancouver, and the two players that Vancouver gave up in draft picks have played exactly 1 game in the NHL total. At the time of that trade i only seen two other men who agreed with me that it was a good trade for Vancouver, and i called it a home run cuz it was. Here we are again, Trader Jim and his trusty side kick just hit it out of the park again and those of us that like the trade are in the minority (my guess is it won't be as successful as the Milsy deal, lol). Yes it should be no surprise that they are doing the major surgery retool like they said they were going to do. They brought in Beauvillier Raty, signed Kuzy to and extension, Kravtsov and now Hronek. My guess is trader Jim is loading up on coffee cuz this surgery isn't completed. I suspect after 12:00 eastern standard time, Doctor Rutherford will toss the surgical gown, gloves and mask in the garbage and let Doctor Alvin take over and close the wound on the patient and sew it up. Go Canucks Go.

You really miss the point of this horrendous trade, we traded horvat for 2 great high picks in one of the most stacked drafts ever and then traded those picks for a prospect. That draft year is soooo stacked that all of the 2nd round could be 1st round. We just got rd of our captain for the best picks in a while for a prospect. 🤷 You can try explain anything you want but this is f***ed how we just from horvat to hrkonan and lost 2 incredible picks!
Canucks management took a lot of heat for not fixing the D. They needed him. And could it have cost more in July.
I would rather have Rathbone & OEL / 2nd rounder going to Detroit instead.
