The Toronto Maple Leafs increased their depth at the defense position today by signing Simon Benoit to a one-year deal. Was this a good pickup and how will the Leafs make the cap work by opening night? Mark Pye and KC break down this signing going into the 2023-24 season and much more in this episode of Hat Trick HQ.

  1. Good for Beniot he's not flashy but he should be fine to play safe minutes. like you guys said 7th/8 defense maybe he plays well and gets the 6th spot but a welcome none the less!! Go Leafs hopefully he continues to get better .

  2. I like this signing he's a big boy and yonge we aren't bring him in here for points I D core needed more size in my mind

  3. So far Brad Treliving is the mirror image of Dufus! just tinkering around the edges! If this continues I think we can clearly see the Leafs GM job is a title ONLY, the decisions are being made by someone else! Trade Marner and or Nylander and start putting a TEAM together, Leafs will never win with the so called big 4.

  4. Personally, I think the Leafs should have signed Callan Foote who got picked up by the Devils. Treliving missed that opportunity. And the Leafs would do well to pick up Jesse Puljujarvi on a cheap 1 year prove it contract. He might just strive with the right combination. What have they got to lose?

  5. Leafs should trade Jarnkrok, Timmons/Lilijren and even Sam Lafferty. Bring in Comtois, Bailey on cheap deals cause even moving Lafftery and signing Bailey to 750k you save almost 500-750k there
