I think it’s the addition of the top layer of ice and the position of the camera that makes everything seem to much more dull. Check out the change in the yellow too.

It’s been royal blue. The fact that they filled it into fit the whole center circle is the real upgrade

The layers of ice probably dull it a bit, but the colors look a lot more vibrant now.

Also the Red Center line is filled with white Crossed Sabres instead of white dots.
A nice touch, imho.
