They should have retired Chelios' number ages ago.
The only "real" hockey jersey I own is Chris Chelios Blackhawks. In between MN hockey franchises, I followed the Hawks. My wife bought me the jersey a few months before Chelios got traded away. Same thing happened with Bertuzzi in Vancouver, as I had just bought her one of his jerseys. So, we no longer buy jerseys of favorite players while they are active. Cheaper that way, too.

The best way to just mitigate this whole wild speculation is for them to finally release the 2018 report or if the investigation is still actually ongoing (and thus them not being able to release a report at this time) to give a timeline on when they think it will be done. For months it just has been 'soon', which is just making people annoyed and speculate wildly. And then just deal will the fall out then. It currently just feels like they are trying to keep kicking the can down the road.
SMH move by the Hawks. Chelly didn't play the majority of his career there, didn't win a Cup, and #7 was also worn by Seabrook, who did everything he was supposed to do to warrant such an exclusive honor.
Agree with you 100% on the fact that there must be evidence! It’s amazing how many people are willing to speculate and make assumptions without evidence.

No, Seabrook should not go up there, too. Nor should Pit Martin or Phil Esposito. Ottawa forever lowered the bar for number retirement with Chris Phillips, and Seabrook would just be another that.

I like that the Hawks are retiring his number, although it will be the second of a set of three retired numbers for the Hawks that will be associated with multiple players.
# 3 retired for Pilote & Magnuson
# 7 retired for Chelios & Seabrook
# 19 will be retired for Toews & Murray
Pilote + Chelios = 6 Norris Trophies, 15 All Star Team (not Game) selections, & 4 Cups.
Chelios was a great player and athlete I don't want to take that away from him, but man what a dirty player. I can't think of anyone who got away with more murder than him. Between him and Gary Suter they contributed to many shortened careers I'll just say that.

I 100% agree. The speculation is crazy!!! Innocent until proven guilty is so forgotten on social media it seems. It’s sad to see people throw around such serious accusations before information releases.

Its hard to attach Hart to anything as it has been proven he wasn't even in the country when these allegations arise from. Just wants to be private, its been a hard couple years for him.

The 2018 incident isn't widely reported or known in the US. Took the time to watch "Anatomy of a Scandal". It doesn't really provide any proof in the case, but clearly Hockey Canada dropped the ball on the original investigation. If there are suspensions involved, as Strickland is reporting, it will definitely be a bombshell with fallout.
Wonder is Chelios in the HOF as a Hawk or a RedWing? How many players have had numbers retired by more than one team?
Chelios is mostly remembered in montreal for sleeping with patrick roy's wife (the true reason why he was traded) and his elbow hit on Brian Propp against philadelphia in the playoffs.

I really dislike nimbers being retired. New players.comimg up could be given these numbers if reminded of the old players. Lafleur was offered Beliveaus 4 before it was retired. Seabrook wore 7 for a long time as did Pit Martin

People need to understand that these types of investigations are usually completed quickly, but the delays come in when deals are being made behind the scenes to keep names out of it. Deals as far as payoffs to victims, NDA's, etc. Players lawyers, league attorneys, and owners all want to protect their valuable assets, which is why usually the names that come out are not the biggest ones. You know, fall guys.
This is BS..Seabrook has done way more and was a better defenseman than the turncoat Chelios ever was.. its a disgrace that Seabrook is getting bypassed.. shame on you Wirtz
Brown checks several boxes but probably not enough scoring to get in the HHoF. If his hits while playing in the dead puck era and being the 1st US captain to raise the cup twice means enough to voters he should get in.
I'm really hoping neither of those things are true and Hart just wants to be left alone for a bit or something.
I saw another channel mention that Hart is going to Edmonton and that Campbell was part of the deal.
Yeah these 2018 speculation are getting crazy. But doesn't help right now that there not just Hart that made this move, but also 3 others (Dubé, Howden, Raddysh). But lets not go into a witch hunt, lets wait for this report and see.
