I feel like this one is such an obvious one it’s just a waste of breath. Not bashing OP but the writer of the article.

What an absolute dogshit piece of writing this is.
>Kasperi Kapanen allegedly suffered a relapse and got himself into trouble in his native country of Finland.
A relapse from what exactly? There have been no reports Of Kapanen struggling with alcoholism or past substance abuse. I’ve never seen a report that Kapanen had ever been in any type of recovery program or had ‘gotten sober’ to overcome past issues. Being drunk is not a relapse. Driving under the influence is dangerous and criminal behavior. For many, it is a ‘rock bottom’ that steers them toward treatment and a life of sobriety.
The term “relapse” immediately suggests that there has been a history of substance abuse and a backslide in treatment. There is no evidence that this is the case here.
>There is no evidence to suggest otherwise, but we also can’t be 100% sure this is not the first in a potential string of incidents.
Fuck off with this shit.
Driving drunk is not something to treat lightly. There should be league and/or team discipline for DUIs and if he needs help then he should get that help. But wild speculation about how there could be a bunch of other shit we don’t know about with zero supporting evidence is just garbage, dogshit “reporting.”
Our last captain got charged with a DUI and fleeing the scene when his truck crashed into a building at 4am. The state wasn’t able to prove whether he or his friend were driving, but we know that both were in the vehicle and decided to bail after the crash.
We all watched a clearly drunk Binner driving a scooter during the parade and no one gave a shit.
A suspension, the loss of some money, and the consequences of the Finnish judicial system are absolutely all merited if Kappy was in fact driving drunk. Pearl clutching about this maybe, possibly, potentially being part of a string of unacceptable behavior with zero evidence to support that is bullshit. Tons of NHL players drink in the offseason (and even during the season!). Our Cup winning team had a big reputation for it. Multi-day benders following a Cup win has become a point of celebration around the league. Our ‘come together’ moment in 2019 took place with a group of guys day-drinking at a bar. Drinking in the summer is not a relapse. Making the decision to drive is a selfish, shit decision and there should be consequences. But let’s not clutch the pearls and pretend like it is evidence of a lifetime of substance abuse. He needs to grow up and make better decisions. He may or may not need to change his relationship with alcohol. Speculating about the later is garbage.
