I expected to see this posted after Hughes was announced as captain, but didn’t see it. To me, there was a moment of pure clarity after the 2021/22 season that spoke to me re: how Quinn Hughes was totally captain material.
During the year-end pressers, Boeser was asked about his play and how it was affected by what was going on in his life (his Dad had developed serious dimentia). Boeser gets very emotional during his response and, in all honesty, it’s hard to watch. After getting emotional, Boeser actually leaves the room, and then the remaining players are asked about how hard it’s been on him. Petey gets emotional and can’t speak and Hughes steps in and just said everything that needed to be said with poise, respect, and leadership.
Despite the poor guy being hoarse, he just hammered out a perfect reply right on the spot when most people, even professional PR folks, would struggle to find the right words.
