  1. My understanding of the story would be that Jenner lent the photos to Babcock because Babcock wanted to show what a real professional does on his off time (family). Someone caught wind of it all and twisted it into something else. Wether Babcock’s intentions were good or not… the problem is that this is delusional because you cannot force a 20 year old NHL player to live an old man’s family life… I don’t think there is much to this story but it might be a sign that Babcock hasn’t changed all that much.

  2. I kinda figured stuff like this would happen if Babcock got hired, again. A lot of people think Babcock never got his comeuppance and would salivate at the opportunity to make his life much harder. He’s got a huge target on his back, even if he is a born-again nice guy. This is why I was so surprised when Columbus hired him. He’s going to be a huge distraction and his players surely will take a long time to trust him, given his public record of being unable to control himself. The things he did weren’t just like, “Whoopse, I forgot to suit Modano for game 1500. My bad.” No, that’s something a coach plans probably months in advance just to infuriate a hall of famer for decades. How can a GM bank on his players trusting a guy like that?

  3. I wanted Columbus to be talked about more but this isnt quite what i ment. At least its a not an actual issue at the moment.

  4. The Canucks are probably waiting on injuries during training camp and the exhibition season to save them from their self-inflicted salary cap issues. Mikheyev could be put on the LTIR to help him recover properly from his injury and help the Canucks recover properly from their management of the salary cap. I would hope that the professional and excessively staffed management group have a plan to deal with this situation that isn't just being forced to trading away their 1st round draft pick in a bad trade.

  5. This reeks of a game of telephone and Biz hearing a grain of truth he wanted to hear and then twisting it to fit the narrative he wants. He’s a jilted ex that wants to hurt his ex and that Twitter statement after the story was proven false shows it

  6. I would just like to say how relieved I was when the Hawks hired Luke Richardson when Mike Babcock was out there sitting by his telephone.

  7. Even if Babcock turns out to have changed his tune and is a much better coach than before, I still think Columbus should've gotten Bruce Boudreau

  8. Part of me also wonders if the Canes stockpiling PTO's is a way to prevent Chicago from getting good AHL talent

  9. If Bill Daly, the NHLPA, and a bunch of players have come out and denied this report, then Biz needs to shut up immediately and stop digging in his heels. He’s only making himself look like a bigger ass.

  10. Mike Keenan, Mike Babcock, John Tortorella.
One cup each as a coach, I would add Mike Ditka and Ozxie Guillen, also one championship.
All exhibit a similar style, that style might work once, but it gets old fast.

  11. Even if true, so what? He asked to see the phone. It's what actions he takes after if Jenner said no that would be the more troublesome thing. If i was in Babs situation and I wanted to pick a leader for my team, then i myself would want to know more about the person to lead. If he went about it in a more stalkitive manner manner, it would be far worse like hiring a private detective or something. A lot adieu about nothing. Never really liked Biz much anyway. He's the papparazi.

  12. This is insane. Babcock is going to be walking on eggshells this season. If this was an issue, imagine when he shows a modicum of emotion.

  13. There’s another bit of info: Johnny Gaudreau did an interview with Marek and Friedman today, corroborated the Jenner and Babcock statements.
Said he think this was a total mischaracterization. That he was comfortable, went on to describe what was asked of players, and then went on to say No players have come to him, Jenner or Werenski with any complaints about anything.

  14. Honestly I really don't know what to believe. Biz is saying he's had multiple players confirm the report now, but it seems like when the PA asks them no one wants to admit it to stay out of trouble maybe? Either way, someone somewhere is lying here…

  15. Here’s a thought that I haven’t heard presented yet: Babcock has said that he has done the asking about pictures from players previously, in Toronto and in Detroit. Somewhere along that line, he 100% has run into a closeted gay or bisexual player. Said player might have been terrified that sharing pics from his summer vacation could “out” him and, likely, effectively kill his hockey career.

Would any of this even occur to Babcock? I’m not certain, but I would probably put the likelihood of him thinking about it being very, very close to 0%. So for Babs, it’s a simple little team-building thing; for the closeted player, it’s potentially the end of his career.

  16. With Mike Babcock I don't think most people have a problem with the hard nosed coaching style its more of the off ice stuff like not letting Mike Modano play 1500 games or some of the stuff Johan Franzen said a couple years ago.

  17. Lets keep calm .if true it means Biz really threw somebody in the hot seat . and if not then Biz started a whole bunch of drama and now its going to cause a ton of everybody looking over there shoulder at there fellow player on a young team that needs to bond if they are going to have success. way to go Splitting Chicklets

  18. Biz and Whit are literal nobodies even when they played in the NHL. As much as babs messed up previously this is simply a hit piece on him. The fact that you're even reporting this like something was amiss is degrading to the actual good content you put out. I get reporting the news but you could at least speak from a more thoughtful point of view considering this.

  19. Halbgewachs looked good playing the canucks last season but i guess every opposing player did playing the canucks last season

  20. Bissonett should lose his gig on TNT, and if I were Babcock I would sue bissonett until he was living under a bridge in a cardboard box…🥰

  21. So why doesn’t Babcock just do a media release himself and confront the situation. I would personally hate to be left on a chopping block with way to defend myself or shut down rumours. If it isn’t true, just come out and say it isn’t true? The resistance from NHL has always been to hush hush instead of attack it head on with transparency….we always see the truth come out years down the road. Agree with you on that one Shannon.

  22. This is gonna be an issue ongoing, you made the decision to hire Babcock and now you're gonna deal with the consequences of that.

  23. Doesn't matter how much support Babcock gets from the league, it's still weird that he wanted to see photos on jenners phone even if it was only 1 player.

  24. They don't need to trade Myers because at this point we actually need him. They need to get rid of Garland

  25. Starting a bit after the 4:20 mark features talk of an upcoming PTO that winger Adam Erne signed with the Oilers. Drafted in 2013 at 33rd overall, and thus early in the 2nd round of said draft, by the Bolts, he, if he didn't play at an IIHF-administered tourney of national men's teams (in his case the US World Juniors' one), played, outside of preseason play, 8 games in the AHL but the rest, if before the 2015-16 North-American hockey season (NAHS), in the QMJHL.

The 2015-16 NAHS featured the start of playing only under contract to NHL teams that by then had been in the Atlantic Division, starting with the Bolts but ending with the Wings. He has played, following his major-junior career, in 25 playoff games, just 3 of them (during which he put up a 0 +/- but also didn't put up a point either) in the NHL. In the AHL he so far has played in 22 playoff games, which he did during that league's 2016-17 season, having earned in such games 10 points (3 goals) and a +/- of +3.

Although Erne's AHL playoff production hasn't been great, at least during the regular season, in any of those last 3 seasons during which he has played in that league, he's averaged over ½ point per game (PPG). At the NHL level he's struggled to even average ⅓ of a point per regular-season game, with the relevant 2019-20 season IMO his WORST when he'd averaged just under ¹/₁₀ of a PPG.

Is Erne's not-so-good point production why, even with his selection having come in the 2nd round of his NHL Draft year, and thus outside the top-10, he finds himself about to undergo a PTO? The NHL is likely entering the last season of the 2020s nearly-flat-cap era although IMO that can't entirely explain why Erne couldn't, after he'd entered unrestricted free agency in July, find a team willing to sign him to more than a PTO.

  26. I think maybe one of the players misinterpreted Babcock’s intentions because of a language barrier

  27. Babcock's past so obviously disqualifies him from coaching. And there are other coaches to choose from. Wth was Columbus thinking? How can they be so blatantly incompetent recruiting their new coach? It's mindboggling…

  28. Larson was a terrible coach but at least he wasn’t in the news every other week for all the wrong reasons 🙃

  29. Jenner and Gaudreau both confirmed that Babcock asked them to show family photos and showed some of his own family. Both downplayd it that it was all in a kind of friendly way. Maybe Bissionette exaggerated the whole story, but who knows. My employer never asked me to show him some family photos but I am not working for a hockey club, so maybe in this branch showing off photos to "superiors" is daily business…

  30. There's nothing like getting ready for the hockey season with some good ol' THG updates. We're so lucky to have this guy around.

  31. Paul Bissonnette isn't exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer… I take anything him (and Whitney) 'report' with a grain of salt.

  32. Spittin Chicklets has a personal beef with the guy. It won’t matter what Mike does they are going to attack him. It’s because of interviews they have done with players who have trashed the guy. The thing is everyone should be allowed to redeem themselves. Who are any of us to judge and decide anyone else should be cancelled in life. Scary to me how society is going down the cancel culture route.

  33. it 100% feels like, someone felt like Babcock was not meant to be coaching that team next season (which would be kinda true) considering that they have so much talent. Just get Babcock out of the boat man, such a shit coach especially for a such a young team, that dude deserve to rot in the tomb of the NHL forgivens.
