I know you mean Martin Jones, so I will not Google who Matt Jones is.

Edit: OK, just saw Sundin as well… This may actually be riddled with mistakes.

Edit edit: I Googled Matt Jones anyway. He’s the actor who played Badger from Breaking Bad.

  2. Reggae4Triceratops

Klingberg. I’m ready to be hurt again.

  3. SpicyP43905

I think we got better overall, but man, in hindsight the Sandin trade was definitely an ill-advised move

    Most excited to see Bertuzzi.

  4. T0macock

I’m stoked to see Knies this season. His story was my favourite part of playoffs last year.

    Arizona*

    Reaves*

    Samsonov*

    Sandin*

    Martin* Jones

  6. biggiexo

Reaves and Benoit will be fun to watch love some truculence and big hits

  7. leafs1985

Bertuzzi on a line with Matthews and Marner SHOULD be fire.

I’m most excited to see what we actually have with Knies, prospects tend to get over hyped here but from the small sample size he looks really good. This is Robertson’s make or break year, hopefully he’s been training with his brother in the offseason. Out of the new additions im most excited for Bertuzzi. I’ve liked his game for a long time and think he’s exactly what this team needs.

Honestly, when you consider Muzzin basically didn’t play last year, i.e. look at the Leafs lineup post-Muzzin in October, I actually think this is a BETTER team.

Murray and Holl being gone is addition by subtraction.

Kerfoot, Engvall, ZAR, Kubel, none of these guys were moving the needle. I absolutely see Bertuzzi, Domi and Knies as not just an upgrade, but a SIGNIFICANT upgrade.

I know people blew their load when Sandin went to Washington, he started hot. Then he proceeded to have 2G and 1A in his final 9 games while being a -2. Klingberg is an adequate replacement IMO. When you consider Muzzin basically didn’t play, Jake McCabe coming in arguably says to me this D group is BETTER than what we had early last October.

Now, if you want to say we’re a downgrade from the playoffs, sure. But also keep in mind, it’s not really a fair comparison, because you can’t judge this year’s squad until after the deadline. Who knows what pieces will be added.

I think the forward group is better, I think goaltending is in a better spot, and I think the D group needs another piece, and I believe that will come at the trade deadline. But as far as regular season hockey goes, I see no dramatic drop off.

I think an offensive minded team is a better fit for Klingberg, if we see Rielly keep his playoff performance, I think we can also finally try to see what we really have in Liljegren, try to give Brodie and Gio a break, see how much work the D group needs at the deadline.

This doesn’t even take into account if Matthews returns to 60G form, and Nylander is playing for his life. I can’t guarantee this season is going to be the best yet with this core, but I 100% believe it can be. I think the playoffs last year were an interesting reality check that this group AND the fan base isn’t owed anything. Many of us (myself included) figured once we got over the mental hurdle of round 1, it would be easy street. We all found out the hard way it’s a grind every single step of the way. I believe that is going to bring this group to an evolution in their maturity which will benefit the team come next playoffs.

Final note: Go look at playoff production last year for Klingberg, Bertuzzi and Domi. Not all deep runs, obviously, but it’s WAY more offensive flare than we ever saw from the likes of Engvall, Kerfoot, ZAR etc.

Looking forward to Matt Jones coming out of retirement. He hasn’t played since 2008.

  11. Salt-Plum-1308

Heard good things about this Matt Jones character!

  12. ApprehensiveTune3655

For me it’s Domi – want to see if he can really excel in our Top 6 this year. Bertuzzi too. Hope they bring the physical presence we need up there. Not necessarily hitting but at least makin space.

  13. SCampo98

Max Domi, feels like I’m re-living my childhood seeing Domi on the back of the sweater.

  14. SpinningDickTwist

    Bert.

He’s the guy I have wanted on our Captain’s left side for years so of course they’ll put him with Matthews and Marner instead of the most logical lines of

    Domi – Matthews – Nylander
    Bertuzzi – Tavares – Marner

  15. LV_Laoch

Why’d we saw out Sundin, losing our captain doesn’t bode great

  16. 1985FXR

I’m just happy we got rid of Holl and Engvall…

Domi/Bertuzzi/Knies are the three I’m looking forward to watching though. Knies is a big boy… 6’3 215 and he’s only 20 years old.

  17. kligurt

Same guy as every year. I still feel like Nicky bobby could just go out that and put up 60-70 on our second line. I’m so optimistic he can perform but obviously he hasn’t had the chance

  18. Patrickbrown45

Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi Domi

I would say knies and domi.
Knees is gonna prove something and I think domi will embrace being in t.o. and become his best version.

  20. HEY-REVEEN

Bertuzzi, and Domi in terms of FA’s, and Knies for sure. Either way it’ll be nice to see an actual good slate of LW’s instead of the past several years of history where it’s peak was Zach Hyman and a bunch of question marks. Woll could be good too, we’ll see. He was great in the moments he got last year but they were just moments.

Klingberg, I’m just hoping it’s not going to be Tyson Barrie 2.0. Reaves is old trash and the best we can hope is that Keefe doesn’t fall in love with him and turns our 4th line into unplayable trash a la Carlyle and Colton Orr/Fraser MacLaren.

  21. uncleherman77

Bertuzzi or Knies probably. I know losing sucked last year but I actually feel much more excited about this season because of all these changes then I have been in a long time it feels like.

  22. DessertRose17

Still not seeing who is going to make Bennett pay. He’s never going to tussle with Reaves and will likely force us onto the PK. Team is still soft af especially on the blue line.
