The Ottawa Senators have signed Jake Sanderson to an 8 x 8.05 MILLION DOLLAR contract extension. With these contract extensions practically coming out of nowhere and Jake Sanderson only having played 77 games in his NHL career up to this point, it seems like the Senators are putting a lot of belief on to this kid’s shoulders for the foreseeable future of this franchise. Now being the 3rd highest payed Ottawa Senators up to this point, the Senators appear to be locking up the young core of this team as early as possible to make this roster a force to be reckoned with over the next few seasons.
What do you think of this CRAZY signing?

Like you said if you just look at his points the contract doesn't make sense but if you've watched him play or have followed his career you'd understand that this was a team friendly deal. A bridge deal after 1 more season of him improving and a increase in the cap will cost way more in the long run.
He's a two way defender and is more known for being responsible in his own end and being effective on the transition. There's only a few current defensemen that played at a #1D caliber during their rookie seasons and they all make or will make more than 8M aav. In a world where Jones gets paid 9.5M and Nurse 9M, Sanderson will be underpaid before his contract officially starts
Literally the same talking points that were used on Tim Stutzle last year, and yet that contract is fine now so why are we criticizing an extension that doesn't even kick in until after next season. Also watch what Sanderon does, hes a Stud 2-way D
