Marlies win 17 goal game in OT against IceCaps — fight



Goaltending was optional Friday in St. John’s.

William Nylander scored 1:15 into overtime and added three assists in regulation and Josh Leivo had two goals and two assists as the Toronto Marlies come from behind to defeat the St. John’s IceCaps 9-8 in American Hockey League play.

Mark Arcobello also had a pair of goals for the Marlies (11-3-1), who trailed 8-4 early in the third period before scoring five straight goals. T.J. Brennan, Zach Hyman, Sam Carrick and Nikita Soshnikov rounded out the offence with a goal apiece.

Michael McCarron, Charles Hudon and Morgan Ellis had two goals apiece for the IceCaps (8-5-3) while McCarron added three helpers for a five-point outing. Christian Thomas and Bud Holloway also scored.

Garret Sparks earned the win after stopping all three shots he faced in relief of Antoine Bibeau. Bibeau allowed eight goals on 34 shots in 40:47 of action.

Eddie Pasquale took the loss for St. John’s after stopping seven-of-eight shots in relief of starter Zachary Fucale, who gave up eight goals on 31 shots in 54:53 of ice time.

The Marlies went 2 for 5 on the power play while the IceCaps scored once on four chances with the man advantage.
