Should The Columbus Blue Jackets Add A Veteran Goalie To The Mix?

Neither Michael Hutchinson or Jon Gillies were great for the Blue Jackets this season, but they could be signed for cheap and add a little bit of stability to an uncertain goalie pipeline next year. Should the Blue Jackets do this? Which one should they sign? Are there any other options out there on the goalie free agent market?

  1. If Columbus does go after a veteran goaltender I believe they would most likely look for one who is currently on a two way contract. This leaves probably two possibilities, Dustin Tokarski or Calvin Pickard. This gives the Jackets some insurance if an injury happens. Either may also be the backup at the start of the season. Edmonton is looking for a center and preferably one on a two way contract. A trade gets the situation settled prior to camp. Either may be available on the waiver wire in October. I'll make the case for Pickard, he's familiar with Cleveland and he's also familiar with Mike Babcock's system. Pickard is more than capable of playing for the big club on a regular basis, he's been a workhorse everywhere he's been and has always been on a club that gives up more rubber than the Oakland Seals.

  2. Or a overseas goalie who is young and can start in ahl and slowly transition to North America but he will need a while
