Well, I think we kinda expected this topic to present itself eventually, so I guess it’s best to get it out of the way quickly.

The topic is simple: could the New York Rangers trade the 1st overall pick at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft—with which they won at the most recent 2020 NHL Draft Lottery—which would be a one-way ticket to Alexis Lafreniere? This idea is brought up by Bruce Garrioch on The Ottawa Sun, and he suggests that the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, and Detroit Red Wings could potentially make an attempt at a trade.

  1. First off you said something that was totally wrong that they can trade Kreider. He has a no trade clause for the first 4 years of his new contract so he is going nowhere. Second if that so called journalist knew anything about the Rangers rebuild, is that it is not based on a win now theory, so they will not trade that pick (remember they also have another first round pick as well). After watching video of Lafreniere, who's to say they don't make a center out of him and place him between Panarin and Kaako. Lafreniere's game is based on roaming and being a playmaker (you don't get 77 assists for being lucky). You often find him on the opposite wing or at center. I'm sure Gorton and JD and the Rangers coaching staff have already observed this. So why trade for a center when you have the ability to get this kid and put him where he should have been all along.

  2. I'm a Senators fan, and I gotta say, as good as I think Lafreniere will be, I wouldn't give up the 3 and 5, just for him. I'd rather have two A players, than one A+ player. If it was Lafreiniere for one of those picks packaged with some other picks/prospects, I'm all ears, but 3 and 5 is worth more than 1. The gap between him and the rest is there, but it isn't that big.

  3. As a Rangers fan you have to listen to offers from Ottawa Senetors and Detroit Red Wings the prospect of getting a Quinton Byfield or Tim Stutzle along with a top D man in the Draft or Dylan Larkin and no 4 for the top pick so if yes I would listen to these types of trades anything less just pass.

  4. NY Rangers trade 1st Rd 2020, Brendan Lemieux, KAndre Miller to PITT, receive 15th 1st Rd 2020, Evgeni Malkin, jussi Rikola

  5. No, they’re not trading it. They’ll listen to offers. They won’t trade it. They won’t even get a viable offer that will make Gorton think about trading it.

  6. I think it’s also peoples tendencies to overreact to GMs saying they’ll listen. It really doesn’t mean much. I’m sure the oilers “listen” to mcdavid offers but have never even considered trading him

  7. Perhaps they draft Stützle? A center / left wing who is ready to play next year he I believe could fill that second line center role. I think he’s a better fit they already have a superstar on the left side. I know it’s extremely unlikely but it makes sense.

  8. Rangers draft Laf and trade other players like Buch and Kreider for a top center or if not Kreider than someone else or picks and prospects

  9. Agree lego, this is a good discussion. The irony is the one team should be in the discussion is not mentioned by you. There is one team that has seven top 50 prospect-level center prospects including who they draft this year and who already has a 1C on the NHL roster…SEVEN! That’s the team NYR should be calling.

  10. YEAH RIGHT they are gonna trade the number 1 overall pick are you stupid even having that video idea.

  11. Cant trade kreider (nmc). You should do a lil more research before a video

  12. Not a chance!!! Lafreniere is a can't miss prospect. You have a chance to get the best player you take him and run. Rangers would be dumb to trade this pick.

  13. With laf and breadman there is no need for an amazing #2 center. Those two wingers run the play. Laf will probably pair up with zib and breadman can carry any center on that second line.

  14. I agree with you. Rangers should trade the kid, something tells me that his perceived value is much higher than his “real” value will ever be.

  15. Do you think Montreal could get Lafrenière for Domi in that second line center, their first round pick (probably 16th) and some prospects like Struble, Norlinder, Harris, Ylönen, Ikonen, etc…?

  16. The only way they should ever think about it is if Ottawa are giving 3 and 5. Other than that, I say no

  17. They COULD. They absolutely are capable of it.

The real question is why in the name of all the hockey gods would they?

What the bloody hell they getting in return.

Mackinnon or Mcdavid? Id at least entertain such discussions. Anything less not bloody likely

  18. im sure the price tag is going to be obscene that the rangers would be dumb not to take it. gorton isnt going to make a fair trade here amd he shouldnt. Ottawa would need to trade pick 3 5 n matt tkachuck lol. LGR baby!

  19. The reason why Montreal didn’t interview him was because they have been watching him since he was on skates.

  20. NYR also has Carolina's 1st round pick, which lands between 20 and 24. I say we trade that pick, along with Staal and Smith, to a team with plenty of cap space and use that space to lock up DeAngelo long term.

  21. Ottawa could trade White, the 3rd overall, the islanders 1st, and the columbus 2nd in 2021. That is more than enough to satisfy the new york needs. White holds the fort till Byfield or Stutzle is ready to go plus they get another late first and an unknown 2nd… thats a lot right there

  22. Forget the pick. For a minute there I thought you were going to end the video without us knowing who won the game of NHL.
