I think it’s the right decision to keep Jarmo and JD for now, but if this team misses the playoffs without having significant injuries, I think they’re gone after the season.

I’m telling you guys there really was a close to zero chance they’d fire them with the season this close, honestly if this happened in early August when the incident allegedly then it’s probably a different story

ugh what a shitshow
No clue why they even hired Babcock in the first place but a GM does not usually stay after a fuck up like this

I understand the group of people up in arms demanding the FO to be fired, but I am glad they weren’t. I still want CBJ to have some hope this season and cleaning house would most likely mean another fight for 1st round pick. If this season is trash anyways, then say goodbye to FO next off-season. Just glad the HC change was before the season fully starting.

Well. Vincent can only surprise positively. Glad they didn’t have Jarmo fired, he has aced multiple drafts. For example without him we’d have Puljujärvi instead of Laine. Prospects are great, now he just needs to find a good coach. Hopefully that’s Vincent.

Ok great, put this stinkfest behind us and let’s focus on the season.
Optimistically, I’m glad this happened now and not 2-4 months from now. Sure, the story could’ve also never broke and the locker room could’ve silently dealt with whatever was going on. Not a gamble I’d personally like to take given Babcock’s history. I’m tired of everyone complaining acting like the season is over before it even started. It’s not. Lets get this train back on the tracks and go play some damn hockey

I think saying they’re “behind them” is a bit of an overstatement. There’s no explicit statement of support beyond Babcock stepping down and Pascal taking over. It’s notable that there’s nothing expressing confidence in the leadership. It reads very much like the primary reason behind not making a change is how close the season is to starting and the disruption it would cause.
The last paragraph to me reads like an ultimatum. Failure to achieve the results expected will be the last straw. In all likelihood I think this will be Jarmo’s last season as GM of the BlueJackets and JD may or may not stay. If JD has the decision, he will probably move on from Jarmo at the end of the season to protect his own job.

Mike Babcock has to be the second most dense person in the world (barely edged out by the fb coach at MI st). You have a reputation of being a jerk, you have to know this. You get canned in Toronto for doing things that everyone looks at and says “he did what???”. Then, you somehow convince a team to take a chance on you, and two months in you’ve already blown it? Did you not realize there would be scrutiny? Did you not realize you had to change? Did you not realize you had a short leash? What a complete and utter putz.

I don’t get it. No upcoming free agency or urgent trades needed, not many fringe players so making the NHL roster won’t be too tough, and the draft isn’t until next summer. Not ideal to go into the season without a GM and President but how can anyone trust these guys right now. This whole thing sucks ass :/

I read this as if the goals are not achieved then Jarmo and JD are gone at the end of the season. I wonder if that goal is we need to make the playoffs for them to keep their jobs

Clown. Show. Nonsense. If ownership won’t take their team seriously why should anyone else? How can we expect a higher standard from this team if they can’t even hold the guy who took a gamble on a coach with a record and it blew up in his face? JD and Jarmo have made this team better, but if you fuck up on this scale and no one is held accountable, what the hell are you saying to your future players about what’s expected of them?

Anything less than cleaning house is dogshit. Once again, Jarmo escapes accountability. He should be FIRED.

Pascal really has an opportunity to do something special though. If he pulls off a great season and manages to turn this around after starting on such a sour note, there will be such a big morale boost in that locker room.

I dont see this as ownership being “still behind the leadership”. Other than they are not currently fired.

I look at this as a “we’re not going to fire you but you’re on the hot seat now, be warned” statement.
