They’re 5M over so yes of course they are.

  2. We’re a few days away from training camp starting and they’re rushing to make a trade?

I’m assuming this is about Pearson coming back which how did they not plan at all for this? Stuff like this makes me think they’re about to do an incredibly stupid trade just to clear space.

Well there goes our 2nd round pick :\

i’m getting really sick of hearing about us trying to create cap space (it’s been almost 10 years of this) and then we sign someone we absolutely don’t need such as Mikheyev, and trade for an upcoming RFA in Hronek who will get $6.5m+ next summer. I just don’t get it man.

We’re gonna end up trading a 2nd to dump Pearson or Garland I bet.

Yikes, I hope this isn’t anything like the 2nd to offload Dickinson last year.

How could they have seen this coming?

  7. shivd10

If you can move Myers or Beauvillier for free, fine. But they’re better off playing with 2 scratches instead

How do we always put ourselves in this situation

Wait… Didn’t the OEL buyout solve their cap problem so they didn’t have to cough up a pick to stay under the cap? They wouldn’t make the exact same mistake within the span of one summer. Nope this isn’t the clown show starting before the preseason even begins. Goddamnit.

They better not be selling low on anyone. They can just waive Pearson and run a 22-man roster to get cap compliant (which isn’t ideal, but neither is giving up high draft picks to clear space or selling low on anyone)

  12. HanSolo5643

The Canucks always seem to put themselves in this situation. Hopefully, they don’t give up draft picks in a trade, but knowing this team, they may very well give up draft picks.

Myers (1M retained) for Simek (2.25M)
    Simek to minors

    Bear signed for 2M

1.875M cap space cleared, with Bear signed.

  16. I understand a lot of people will be frustrated with the management group over this, but you have to cut them a little slack with this one.

Just 3ish months ago Pearson was saying he was focused on just living a normal life, and being a dad. He gave every indication (at least publically) that he probably wouldn’t play pro hockey again.

They banked on him still being on LTIR, making the team just barely cap compliant and being able to use those LTIR dollars later in the season. It looks like poor asset management now, but it was IMO their best bet to try and maximize the cap situation this year.

Oh where oh where have I heard this before?

  19. CurlingTrousers

And this is after the worst buyout in history, which will have nearly 5% dead cap space until the next decade.

Canucks fans aren’t quite upset enough about what they paid now and going forward with the OEL deal.

Who are they talking about here? Garland? Myers? You have to replace those minutes, even if they’re underwhelming

  20. MooseMalloy

Since we hate 2nds and have already traded our 2024 2nd… I see Garland (retained) and our 2025 2nd to Nashville for future considerations.

Unfortunately losing Hoggie for nothing is what will probably happen. If he could have been traded he would have. We put too much money into a bunch of middle 6 guys and now no room or time to develop Hoggie. He’s just not talented enough for mid 6 and not tough enough for bottom 6.
