Two thoughts on this, first agree Smith should get some first team reps but I would rather week one against Rodgers, even if just for a series. than week 2 against tyrod Taylor for maybe 2 or 3 series? secondly I have never understood how we are constantly beat on quick routes. why not inside shade and play trail technique and play behind with safety help over top. honestly I feel like McLeod and Jenkins are overrated. they don't get beat in man coverage because they rarely get manned up but they constintently fall for ball fakes inside and are often out of position to cover feel plays. I mean we beat we are the worst when it comes to 20 plus yard plays that also falls on the safety play. I get Jenkins got some pick sixes but his play in between was mediocre. and he was awful when he dropped to the slot
Chris Wilson and Jim Schwartz should be drilling these linemen on getting their hands up to bat passes down in the short game. The Eagles really favored that last year partially because of personnel but it's also a staple of the West Coast Offense. They also are clearly going for bigger, more physical CB's to disrupt these timing routes that so many teams want to run to take advantage of the rules. If they can disrupt those routes and trust the help over the top to not get beat for 6 this defense is going to be fine. They were pretty good last year with bad CB play and an offense that couldn't sustain drives for most of the year. If the Eagles are moving the chains on offense and if they get a little more juice out that pass rush they're probably a better defense than last year. They're going to run into tough match ups and get beat in certain games but that's where the other two phases of the game come into play and it's pretty rare that the Eagles lose the battle on special teams.
I've been on the CJ Smith & Grymes wagon since last yr. Once Sidney is back could be a good unit. We will see our WR is an arsenal of weapons. We have not had, since DJax & Mac. Maybe better so, the CB's have to practice against. Safety is a strength Terrence Brooks I'd going to be a valuable weapon. Ran a 4.42 40 and put on some muscle mass.
You guys piss me off with saying Jalen Mills isn't a starter. He is! So what if he would be great in the slot we need a traditional starter! Another thing why is everyone so worried about the two slot positions we have experienced guys in the slot I get it some of the best Wrs play in the slot and are used in the slot but c'mon we have the guys and I'm sick of people saying stop talking about competition If we didnt have great guys competing who are experienced and are capable then we would have reason to be angry! They should have CJ Smith and Douglas at CB and have Mills at slot in a preseason game and see what happen
