  1. Anybody else struggling to see how this fits next to the current trop? Where is 275 in these renderings? The geometric scale is way too

  2. Much rather go to St. Pete, just not too crazy about present stadium. Ybor Harbor would be too expensive just for the land and then get into infrastructure, Rays cannot afford that. Traffic up there is getting worse too. Rays are selling shares in their team and might raise another $600 million from investors.

  3. For a 1/4 of that you could just renovate the trop. Its not the best looking but it seems to be making some magic. šŸ˜‚

  4. Just as an outside point of view from a fan of a different team, I'm not thrilled about a dome and another turf field in MLB. I feel like this should be at least retractable at a minimum instead of another dome. Seems like it's essentially just an updated, nicer version of what they already have in the same location. But good for the Rays fans I guess if it keeps them around.

  5. As a Rays fan, it is so elating to hear this news. This saga has been so ridiculously long and silly. Hopefully they get the numbers right and do not screw the tax payer of Pinellas County but $tu and Co. are only out for one thing…that dolla dolla bill y'all.

  6. Depressed G. seems as though he hates everything, every post, FIRST opportunity, as his main form of enjoyment in life.

  7. Hallelujah, MLB Rays will construct a new indoor ballpark to stay in TBA.

  8. I mean Tropicana Field isn't really a bad location. It's right of the interstate. Can't get much easier than that. Usually I'm in the parking lot 5-10 minutes after exiting off I-275.

  9. waste of money bc Florida will not support MLB and it has nothing to do with the stadium or its location or whether or not it has a roof
I'm 70 born and raised in NYC and I can tell for a fact that both Yankee Stadium and CitiField can be really difficult to get too
Cubs, White Sox, and Red Sox fans will tell you the same story But we put up with it bc we're
    fans

  10. Okay come to Florida in the middle of spring and summer and then tell me how terrible this Stadium will look

  11. Number 1 , it is essential that the stadium is covered because of the heat and humidity. Number 2, the "real" money belong to snowbirds who are not in Florida from May through October so attendance will never be great even though it is a successful organization. Number 3, this is a strange looking design that looks more like a basketball venue than a ballpark. Number 4, the "ballpark village" seems to be the trend so there's plenty of area around the Trop that can actually be developed. Number 5, where is the parking? It's Florida and underground garages are not a good idea. Number 6, are residents going to vote to raise their taxes to fund 50% of the $1.2 billion? I don't think so…

  12. Looks like the trop with a higher ceiling and some glass. 30k seats is crazy small. Good for the Rays though to keep them in town.

  13. St. Pete can support an MLB team, theyā€™ve got good culture already but the trop isnā€™t really a place people wanna spend 90 days out of their summer at.

  14. The real question is whether the field can be utilized for other events, sports, etc…. because that's where the economic impact of a stadium changes immensely.

  15. I like 7 minutes from the trop and I am so happy our city of st. Pete gets to keep our professional team

  16. The media claims itā€™s the location but when the Tampa Bay Lightning played there they set attendance records. There is nothing around the Trop except Fergā€™s.

  17. Wow !!! LOL…..
If Stu Sternberg and MLB think that it's such a good idea that they need a new stadium….why don't they put their money where their mouth is ? Have Stu and MLB pay for it all !

  18. I have high hopes for this stadium. Tampa Bay is also adding a new large bridge between St. Petersburg and Tampa, which would make the commute much easier. Besides it's a growing market, and a smaller, more manageable, nicer stadium is more appealing to fans. My guess is that they will sell out most of their games the first season, then they'll go down and in the end average around 22 – 23,000 fans a game. Which would be a big upgrade over the current situation.

  19. I just wanted to hear about the new park. But instead, I got the most negative narrative possible. I made sure to give you a thumbs down, and I will never listen to anything that you comment on again.

  20. Tampa had its chance. Didnā€™t want to split 50/50 on cost. Taxpayers donā€™t want to help. Pinellas has the hotels tax revenue and Sternberg actually paying more than half surprised me.
