My only rationale for the trade is that the team on paper should not have been second last in the NHL going into the season. We were even second last until 2 months remaining in the season.

Kessel ended up with two cups with Pittsburgh and I believe a third with Vegas if he’s on that roster

Boston should have kept Kessel

Since that trade:
Boston: 1 cup
Phil the Thrill: 3 cups
Toronto: 1 playoff round win

Didn’t really factor much into the Bruins winning the cup unless you consider the fact the Bruins then replaced Kessel’s spot in the lineup with Horton.

I remember the “Thank you Kessel” chants the Bruins fans would make on their way to winning that cup.

This trade made my blood boil because it immediately lost any hope I had in Burke righting the ship. All for a fucking winger. Fuck you Burke.

Yeah, that set the leafs back at least 10 years.

I still can’t believe knoght was taken that high. I watch a lot of London Knights games, he was just bad.

Not sure what this post is supposed to prove. Does OP think this trade is the reason Boston won the Cup two years later ? Cause I don’t see an argument for that tbh.
looking_fordopamine
No way they traded 3 1st rounders for Phil H. D. Kessel

I think it’s time for the Bruins to get back to their once proud tradition of not just beating Toronto, but absolutely fleecing them in trades.

As a rabid Penguins fan, I’m very glad for Phil’s time here in the city. After Marc-Andre Fleury, Kessel was my second favorite Pens player of the Crosby/Malkin era.

Toronto also has a double percentage point bump in the Hot Dog related economy, that’s a “W”.
