On today’s episode of Locked on Wild, we discuss expectations for the 3rd defensive pairing combination of Jon Merrill, Calen Addison and Alex Goligoski. We look at numbers from last year to determine which combination was most effective for the Wild last season, while also looking at the circumstances facing each player heading into the year. We discuss Addison’s defensive struggles, Goligoski being used too much and Jon Merrill doing many of the same things Addison did while not really getting punished the same way. Can we just move on from Merrill already and save that cap hit Just bring on a young D.
Merrill/Goli and Addison, or any combo of, as a 3rd d-pairing is a recipe for disaster especially on the road when home teams have last change.

As far as Addy goes, is this kid gonna re-sign or should we dump him for a 2nd rounder while we still can get it??
Our PP should be revamped top to bottom anyways, because it's just….yeah…
This is my biggest concern, the 3rd D pairing. These guys are a liability if trapped on the ice with a Benn, MacKinnon, Edmonton’s top group type of line. I would give the kids a LONG look starting tonight and pray someone is ready or close. Thinking Addison is gone or will be shortly. A sign and trade is my bet. When he does play, the other team throws the puck to his corner and pounds the boards. It’s a receipt for disaster.
With Merrill, edge work and mental lapses scare the hell out of me, he always gives a solid effort but can’t stick with the other teams top forwards. Goligoski as mentioned, is a spot D now, 1 every 3-4 games. Wish we had Soucy now, should kept him in queue. He’s in Vancouver, maybe over time there’s a way to get him back if their season goes south. Maybe a Boeser / Saucy for Merrill, Addison and Goligoski 😄😄😄😄.
Seth can you do a bit in an episode about the prospect showcase please? Would love to hear your opinion. The Blues game was rough around the edges for me but the baby savages did pretty decent overall. Chicago will be a fun game.
Its pretty obvious that Addison is not looked at as a stud by the Wild power brokers… If he was…hed be signed. LETS BE HONEST…If the young kids cant make this squad full of average players…the whole BS about us having the prospect high end quality…well..as the Minnesota fan special saying says…next year???? Well…maybe not.
