Yeah saw this. On the one hand, I’m not sure just how juiced in this french canadian is on our team. On the other, he’s the first reporter to provide a concrete $ amount. I understand the Ducks want a prove it contract, but this is not how you negotiate with someone who you believe is or will be your best player.

Holy hell just sign them already you were so comfy giving killorn and gudas humongous deals but you wanna lowball the future stars of your team

Explains the holdout at least. I’m sure everybody will be pissed at Verbeek, but he’s low balling so the eventual aav is team favored. I know lots of people will think its a slap in the face and will drive players away, but these guys are professionals, they should recognize its a business and Verbeek is doing his job just like the player agents are trying to do theirs.
I think where this does turn into an ugly situation is if Verbeek remains this unyeilding well into the season. Ideally they settle closer towards 5m before the season starts.
If we are gonna be mad at anybody we really should be mad at the league for not giving every rfa arbitration rights. It’s silly that arbitration rights are only earned after certain amounts of service time.

Get it done until tomorrow. He’s worth at least 6M

That’s absolutely ridiculous. I’m all for the short term; he needs a prove it bridge deal, but he’s worth more than that. I was thinking $5 or $6m x3.

Honestly this summer hasn’t been a good look for Verbeek. We can’t be lowballing these young stars and leaving a bad taste in their mouths. Especially after signing Killorn for 25M.
If Zegras gets a 3-4M offer after putting up back to back 60 pt seasons, I’m worried to see how much they’ve offered Drysdale especially since he’s been out the entire year.
BarrytheBelcher
That’s honestly embarrassing and the kind of thing that could leave a bad taste in his mouth about staying with the team long term
He’s absolutely earned more than that

I’d rather have bargain bin Bob back
Dis-Ducks-Fan-1130
If Zegras takes this he’ll for sure be commanding 10 mil plus when it’s time for his long term. Verbeek needs to pay him, at the very least, fairly so next negotiations go better.
dracomaster01
It’s frustrating and a low offer from Verbeek. Not having a deal done by training camp is bad look for a GM. But i do think people are overreacting about how this could effect Zegras’ relationship with the team

But, but, but…GMPV is the savior of this team. How could he do this?

I listen to a lot of Sirius/XM’s NHL channel and everyone on there says to sign Zegras to an 8 x $8.0-8.5 million deal and just get it over with, having a long-term contract is better than short because everyone on there thinks Zegras in the next several years potentially will have 80, 90, or even 100 point seasons it just is a matter of the team getting better around him.
No-Doctor-4396
3-4m is pretty low I think between 5-6m is pretty fair. A lot of upside still but zegras needs to improve defensively.

Gmpv trying to weoponize capspace to collect picks/players to accelerate this teams ascension to relevancy. 10mil to bargain with cap strapped teams is a lot different than 5-6mil.
IWasWatchingC0ps
I find this report very hard to believe. That range is not even in the ballpark.
Kirk420
I’ll be the first to drag PV for this if it drags into the season, but for now I think we just need to relax about this. Still plenty of time to get this done.

no wonder Drysdale is so far off. if theyre offering Z 3-4, what the hell are they even offering a guy who missed the full year?? a greyhound bus pass? IF this is true, its pretty ridiculous. I’ll hold after seeing how terry’s deal played out, but not great that all this is getting played out in reports. we shouldnt be that far off this late in the game.

I guess I’m the only one who doesn’t believe Zegras is a 80point player and deserves 8yr 8 Milly contract. He has a lot of talent and skill, but is he a killer and demands excellence? No. Is he a two way player? No. Would he rather do some awesome hockey Colorguard moves for the fans and himself for Instagram? You betcha. I went to a good amount of games last year, you could hear this kid yell and lose his shit when things didn’t go his way. There’s a reason why Sidney fucking Crosby went after him after he was slamming his stick and yelling at a ref. Everyone knows how talented this kid is. But he plays the game like a fuckin child. He needs to grow up before I invest a truck load of money in him.
