Penguins Training Camp Day One Analysis!

Training camp is finally here, which means Pat and Hunter have live hockey to react to. They first discuss some of the lines that stood out to them on Thursday, even though Mike Sullivan says to not read into them…too much! Hey, they read into the “duos” if you will. They especially look at Vinnie Hinostroza and how he was skating with Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust and if we could see that in a preseason game soon. They then look at how the defensive pairings seem to be playing out as expected, especially in the top four. After that, they get to the big news on Jake Guentzel as he’s back on the ice. Pat and Hunter analyze what that means for the Penguins and how his absence will be shortlived after all the panic was out there during the offseason. Finally, they look at how the mood of the team is for camp and how everyone seems to have a massive chip on their shoulders after how last season ended.

Nylander. I don't think nylander brings enough offense to the third line to make a difference. I'd rather more speed, forecheck, tenacity, and defense. Seems like a better fit for sullys system.

  2. Seeing Sullivan’s interview today it seemed to be really and I mean really excited as he said in a sense this is the most talented team since he has been there. To add on to what pat said with smith an underrated talent he has a great leadership in a sense of his motor and dedication. I try not to overthink this year as it’s only the first practice and with so much determination in this team I just am unbelievably excited. I haven’t looked into it that much but even just from todays camp was jarry who seemed confident and sharp obviously a small sample size but just a excited and dangerous team

  3. They will play Carter (unfortunately), but I see him in the press box on back to back nights and against faster teams!

  4. Definitely great news about Jake skating today. I’ll admit there is the sense of buzz that you just didn’t feel last season. Between Kyle Dubas coming here as the President of Hockey Ops and GM, to Jason Spezza joining the organization, to Amanda Kessel and Trevor Daley getting promotions, to the numerous roster moves this past summer, and of to the biggest acquisition of all Erik Karlsson. There is excitement that hasn’t been felt in a while. We’ll see what this season brings.

  5. Im really hoping Yager is selected for Team Canada at the World Juniors this year, I really would like to see him play on that international stage, because it's been awhile since we've seen a highly touted prospect represent The Penguins at the World Juniors.
