Does Nylander’s move to centre price him out of Toronto?

With William Nylander opening training camp as a centre, TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado shares his thoughts on the possibility of the move pricing Nylander out of Toronto.

  1. If nylander gets 90 points playing centre all year leafs happily pay him 10. Tavares contract will be 7 million in a couple years they can make it work

  2. The entire point was to show him he can't play center and isn't worth 10+

We already know this doesn't work, it's been tried hes bad at it

  3. Vice versa. Nylander wants Tavares money cause he is better than him right now, drives the play more at 5 on 5 and is more dependable. He always wanted 11$ million at least. The Leafs are trying him out at center after 8 years of insisting he's a winger because they may have to pay him the 11$ million and if they do they would rather pay a center that than a winger.
    Tavares can play the wing.

  4. Aho doesn't have the same offensive pop as Nylander? Well, given that he plays in a very tightly controlled defensively structured team as a nr 1 center, he's 11th in goals in the NHL over the last 5 years and has 0,98 ppg average with +77. Nylander? 32nd and 0,88 ppg with +5 as a winger to a center with better ppg than him and with easier matchups and less defensive focus than Aho. I get the show business aspect but I just wish facts played a bigger role than home bias.

  5. Willy's going to play a lot with JT and/or Domi and that means he'll be taking a lot of draws on his strong side regardless of what 'position' he's supposed to be playing that night, so getting reps at C won't be a bad thing for him. Last season his faceoff w% was around 43 percent, so this crisis of Willy down the middle will/should have some tertiary benefit, IMHO.

  6. If Toronto keeps Nylander they'll be out of the playoffs in the first rd. Keeping him will gurantee no realistic fix at RD, and it would also guarantee that they're sending out 2 to 3 bottom 6 depth players to clear the 3mil cap to be compliant, and those bottom 6 depth players are crucial come playoff time. Treliving us making the exact same mistakes Dubas did. Most of the gm's in the league would've traded this guy months ago for an elite d. Thank God I'm not a Toronto fan and my teams gm fixed my teams biggest weaknesses within 2 weeks of the offseason. Toronto has been top 5 in the league for goals for the last 4 or 5 years, they needed a strong rd long before they needed more goal scoring. Thanks for keeping Toronto the laughing stock of the league Treliving
