I don’t see any world where we trade for him. Anaheim’s stacked on defense with their prospect pool and young defensemen. So I’m guessing the ask from Montreal would be Dach+++ since they’re gonna want a center back.
Zegras has shown to be a flashy 60+ point center, but I wouldn’t give up Dach+++ when I think he could easily be a 50+ center this season that brings a more well-rounded game and a lot of size.

Offer sheet compensation at $7.85 million X 5 years would be a 1st, a 2nd, and a 3rd. If the ask in a trade was multiple 1sts + prospects like people are suggesting below, why wouldn’t Hughes just go the offer sheet route? I have to think Zegras would sign it if Anaheim is talking bridge contract.

Anaheim has the most cap space in the league. Terry signed 7×7 this summer. No other big contract coming up. Verbeek is just trying to keep the AAV/terms down on Zegras and Drysdale.
So I don’t think Zegras is really on the market. It’s just basic negotiations tactics to see what you could get for him before committing long term.

Id trade Anderson to WAS (actively looking for a top 6 winger) for Mantha + 2024 1st + 2025 2nd.
Then ship our own 2024 1st (top 3 protect) + CGY 2025 1st (top 10 protect) + Beck or Farrel or Mesar + Barron + cap to make it work (so probably Mantha and Armia).
This way we get Z and still have 1st picks in the next two drafts.
Id try to build 3 scoring lines (even out the talent) :
Heineman-Suzuki-Caufield Newhook-Dach-Roy Slaf-Zegras-Monahan RHP-Evans-Gally (or a kid if LTR)
I honestly believe wed be making the playoffs with that lineup assuming not too many injuries.

I would trade maybe but not offer sheet. Offer sheet means paying very high draft picks. I would just trade draft picks and prospects i already have evaluated. We would need to know how much zegras costs as well. Because trading for a guy we have to sign for 7 mil sounds harsh.
