TANNER PEARSON TRADED TO THE MONTREAL CANADIENS FOR CASEY DESMITH



General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the Canucks have acquired goaltender Casey DeSmith from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Tanner Pearson and a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.

This partially solves the glut at forward and helps a bit with the Canucks’ cap situation. It also gives the Canucks a legit NHL backup goaltender.

    Nice. I really didn't think we would get a player that would fill a need in a Pearson move. It hasn't been a major talking point but the Canucks really needed a backup

    They could probably retain on and flip DeSmith if another team has a goalie injury or Silovs is ready. Little risk IMO (should just bury Martin due to low cap hit)

    So… where does Tulopilo play? He looked solid in the prospects games he played. Does he end up in Kalamazoo? Or does he play in Sweden again?

    Why would u still want Martin as backup for van, Martin would let in 5 goals every game. DeSmith will most likely be back up or silovs imo

    Rutherford wasn't impressed with Pearson back in 2019 and was quickly dealt out of Pittsburgh. It was obvious he wasn't part of management's vision … And there may have been bad blood because of the handling of Pearson's injury. I thought Pearson would be traded but I didn't expect this fast. Great move for Pearson that helps Canucks Cap and the Canucks get an okay transitional back up goalie for the year. Silov will need another year in AHL to keep playing, developing, and progressing.
