If I was to guess, its to disrupt the eyes of the shooter. High level shooters don’t just aim for an area of the net. They’ll actually pick out a specific knot in the twine. If a goalie wears dark equipment, the white twine is easier to see because of its contrast. However, white on white makes the twine a bit more difficult to pick out.
