Dave Lapham Postgame Call | Cincinnati Bengals Fall 24-3 To Cleveland Browns

It was another performance not to remember for the Cincinnati Bengals in Cleveland as they opened up the 2023 NFL season.

A 24-3 loss to the Browns has the Bengals sitting right where they started the 2022 season.

After the Game, Dave Lapham jumped In The Trenches with Dave Berk to discuss what he saw during the day.

Were there any bright spots?

Or was this one you just throw away and get ready for Week 2 when the Baltimore Ravens come to Paycor Stadium in another AFC North battle?

Also, you have until 11:59 p.m. tonight to take part in the First Star Logistics Week One giveaway of three signed Ja’Marr Chase helmets. Remember, First Star Logistics will be giving away great prizes each week the Bengals play. Visit here to learn more. https://twitter.com/Firststarlog/status/1698820107584094360

  1. Hi Dave, lifelong Bengals fan now way out in Wyoming I'm so disappointed with today's game but I'm not worried about my Bengals

  2. Please do not blame it on rain remember the weather was not a factor we played the bills in an effing snowstorm remember the Bengals were not ready

  3. Zacs gameplan was shit today. Should have just handed it off to Joe Mix, he consistently found openings and was able to run the ball. No idea why Zac kept trying to force the ball to Higgins, who I dont think had one catch today. Most of the passes to Jamarr were close to being OOB not giving him much chance of catching the pass in bounds.

Seeing all that, for Zac to continue to call up plays forcing it to Higgins, Chase & Boyd is fairly inexplicable. I think there were only 2 passes to Irvin, Jr. — why not include him in the game more at that point just to see what we have?

Zac's gameplan was confounding to say the least.

Think its fair to say Burrow's calf strain limited his mobility today and he struggled to escape the pocket and extend plays with his legs like he usually does. Hopefully, he is recovered from his injury by next week against the Ravens and gets his full mobility back.

  4. Games like this make one wonder about the NFL being fixed. Poor play. Poor play calling. Idiotic across the board. No reasonable excuse for a team this good to perform like this.

  5. @juicysparkles. Of course Zac Taylor wont run the ball no matter what. So Joe can barely hang on to the ball. Joe Mixon is running decent? Why don't I have Burrow throw it 31 times. More screens and throws in the flats. Couldn't see the receivers but don't know if Burrow just wasn't seeing them or they weren't getting open. Brown wasn't the savoir he was supposed to be. Jonah still stinks. Luckily we had all of those plays defensive plays from our number one pick Murphy. Taylor can't coach or pick unless it falls in his lap or he can ride his Burrow to victory cause he's going to totally lean on him until he's dead.

  6. Bengals are no big deal. You just saw one of the top 3 DEF's in the league and it wasn't the Bangles.

  7. I expected a convincing Brown’s victory. Burrow was immobile and tentative on that leg. If he is injured or concerned he shouldn’t play. He was injured and he looked tentative. Nevertheless, if you want to have a Super Bowl year, this is exactly the way I would want the story of that season to start. Be prepared for a magnificent year of greatness from Mr. Joe Burrow and Co. Besides the offense wasn’t completely awful, Joe Mixon had some hop. I was surprised he didn’t get the ball more.

  8. All due respect, but can we please stop blaming/ using "the elements" as an excuse? Last season the Bengals beat the Bills in a blizzard. Sloppy is sloppy, regardless of circumstance.

  9. WHY DON'T YA SAYIT!!!
OUR DEFENSE KNOCKED THE. CHOCOLATE OUT OF THE BENGALS !!!!!!
THE VERY FIRST PLAY JOE WAS ON HIS COOLO .NO FURTHER QUESTIONS YOUR HONOR BBBBBOOOOOMMMM
GO DAWGS RIP AND TEAR U DIG???????
LAPHAM, JOE ISN'T A 50 YR OLD qbLIKE
ARRON RODGERS. He should at least play 1 preseason game yah!!!!

  10. •WE DO NOT WANT ANY EXCUSES !

    – Both Teams were playing on the Same Field with the Same Elements…
-Yet the BROWNS KICKED ASS AS THEY RUSHED for 200+Yards and threw for 150+😅
    – CHAMPIONSHIP calibre teams are not this ill prepared😢 We Do Not Want to be the BUNGLES of the not too distant past🤭
    – Let's see what happens the rest of the Season… Anything Short of a Super Bowl Appearence/WIN is a Failure!

    – Joe now that you are Loaded and $$$et for Life… Kindly Refocus on the Game  Preparation/Rehab/Health💯… Please Don't BS us and please get a Hair Cut😮.. You play better with the Buzz cut!
-Moreover, T Higging#85 will not go all out without a contract extension (I won't blame him). Therefore Bengals extend him for sure… Can't say that for Boyd#83, but why not!
    – Plus, the kicking game/Returns/field position SUCKED! Just like #9
    – I thought Robbins knew how to kick well in these northern weather elements/conditions..NOT!
    – Lastly, the head coach seemed like the old "Gomer" Taylor/Deer staring at the headlights at night😳

  11. "We don't want to risk injuries…"
Okay, but at some point the OL needs to get READY.
The past 2 seasons they were not ready and we lost week 1.
Entirely possible we go 0-2 in back to back seasons.
We got away with it in 2022…. can we expect to in 2023? Sounds foolish to me.

  12. Got to play together to be ready to play in a game. Pre season reps are needed. That's why we always lose first few games every year

  13. There was not a player for the Bengals that was ready to play football week 1, time to start plAYING THE STARTERS IN PRESEASON SOME.

  14. Many changes needed that weren’t address. I’m not worried about burrow bad game for him. No doubt

    But

-o line still looks the same or worse
    -run defense is still bad

  15. The thing I've liked most the past few years about this team is they've learned from every bad game and usually come out much the better. But it's inexcusable to have been this unprepared in Week 1 yet again. Something about the preseason has to change. Baltimore almost becomes a must-win given that a loss makes us 0-2 in the division.
