  1. the trade was needed, but i look at it as one less strong board battler. we need a yuounger, faster pearson.

  2. I LOVE this trade! We desperately needed a reliable backup and we got one. When Jarry would get injured in Pittsburgh, DeSmith would fill in and Jarrys absence was hardly noticed. While he doesn’t have much playoff experience, the one game that stands out was against the heavily favoured Rangers two seasons ago and DeSmith stood on his head, making 48 saves before getting hurt in OT. He also represented team USA in the WC last year and went 5 and 2, 1.95 GAA and .918 in save %.

  3. Non star goalies are a fifth rd pick. So we lose the difference between a 3rd and fifth, for 1.5 million cap relief.

    Start the car………

Trade Martin for a bag of pucks

  4. Thanks for this video. I felt we needed to move Pearson but didn’t know much about Casey DeSmith. When I check his stats outs I felt pretty good about him backing up Demo. I completely agree Martin isn’t a great option for backup.
So I now feel pretty good about this trade👏

  5. Yeah I'm totally fine with this deal because it saved us 1.45m and made us cap compliant which is what we needed to do, plus we got the backup goalie to demko which was also something we needed and Desmith is a decent backup to boot. So all n all we got rid of something that we have in excess in wingers, got something back that we needed in a backup goalie, AND we made ourself cap compliant, got all that for the price of a 3rd rounder…..so yeah I would definitely say I'm finally happy about a trade we made for once

  6. Remember when we got holtby as a backup and people were stoked? I hope Desmith works out better than he did

  7. great move. needed an nhl goaltender and to make some cap room. may be able to start a full roster now. i have the same bo cap. i wear it on rainy days now.

  8. This opens up Silovs, which is incredible. Next season he will be worth a first and second, if he keeps his pace.

  9. Obviously, having to move a pick to free up cap space isn’t great, but the Canucks are over the cap. They’ve made it clear, for better or worse, that they’re going for the playoffs this year (like every year) and either they did this or they’d be playing a roster player short to get under the cap and possibly forcing Silovs into a full time back up role he might not be ready for. This move gives them a veteran back up and gets them cap compliant for the season, so there’s no issue with having a full roster to start the season. They needed a reliable goaltender who could allow Demko to play 45-50 games and hopefully stay healthy and on top of his game and they got that. This roster was a mess when the new regime took over and with the pressure from ownership to make the playoffs yesterday and the cap crunch league wide, they couldn’t just tear things down even if they wanted to. This was exactly what they needed to do. Now, if Demko does get hurt, DeSmith should be able to play for a few weeks as the starter and they can ease Silovs into the backup role.

  10. It was a trade out of pure necessity. I hate that the club gave up yet another future prospect but it needed to be done. DeSmith is an upgrade to Martin and allows Silovs to develop in Abby for a full year.

  11. With DeSmith in Vancouver and Martin in Abbotsford this allows both Demko and Silovs to play more minutes yet have a reliable back up. The loss of Pearson may mean somethings to the players since he was near them all the time while rehabbing is hand. He will be doing okay in Montreal and will get lots of playing time there since they desperately need help all over the ice. In my opinion this is a good trade for Vancouver they are now under the cap and unless they go and sign someone when all the players are out on waivers we are good to go for the season, finally.

  12. Habs fan here. as much as i love this trade for both teams, vancouver must start taking a page out of montreals playbook. every recent trade montreal has made they always seem to acquire a pick in the transaction. while vancouver always seems to be giving them away. this must change for the sake of future growth of the team. have a great season.
