Jakob Chychrun Dominates In Pre-Season Sens Debut + Ottawa Senators Trade Rumours Are Heating Up

The Ottawa Senators remain undefeated in the pre-season, winning their second of back to back games against the Toronto Maple Leafs!

Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan break down the 4-3 overtime win in Toronto. The Leafs had their entire first line out there and still couldn’t manage to get a victory. Jakob Chychrun and Mads Sogaard had standout performances. Thomas Chabot played over 30 minutes in this one and we have a discussion about how many total goals we think the back end could score this season. And we wrap up the show discussing the most recent trade rumours around how the Sens can clear space to sign RFA Shane Pinto.

  1. We don't need to keep giving air to these notions of having no leverage in the Pinto situation and waiting for a team to bend Dorion over the barrel. Pinto is looking at making 890k this year, moving to Europe and hurting his career, or making nothing. Wait him out. Maximizing his career earnings means accepting what we have left under the cap.

  2. I think you'll see the minutes on D go down when both pairings are together. In each of the last 2 games that top pair was really the best option but I think when they're joined together, they split minutes more evenly.

  3. I think the another solution for the Pinto contract, is try to move Kelly, and Brannstrom. I feel like Parker Kelly at this point is someone who is easily replaceable by someone like Sokolov. Potentially even put Kelly on waivers. If you trade Brannstrom and 2nd for like a 4th, just a thought.

  4. What about the option of just letting pinto sit out this year and sign him next year? I don’t want this to happen at all but would it be better then having to trade a first rounder or good prospect just to offload Joseph? Sens are stuck between a rock and a hard place
