[Dayal] Tocchet on Dakota Joshua “Dakota, he’s gotta pick it up. I’m not gonna get into some other factors but he’s gotta try to win a job. The job’s not there, there’s guys breathing down that want jobs”

    “Other factors”

    He slept with Garland’s wife

I had Joshua locked up for that left wing spot on the 4th line, but with his antics at practice and no show physically against Calgary beating up on us had me sour on him.

Agreed. I didn’t watch most of the game against Calgary, but from the highlights I did see and the parts of the game I did watch, he looked really bad.

It’s never good news when a player isn’t playing good enough, but I’m glad the leash is short and Tocchet is sticking to his guns with his “non-negotiables”. We can’t afford an energy guy to not play with any energy.

He’s 99% likely to make the team imo. This team is already soft with Joshua in the lineup.

Guys who can score 10+ goals, put up 200+ hits and drop the gloves aren’t gonna clear waivers.

It says a lot that he (and Pods) got punted out of the main group in practise this morning. Say what you want about training camp lines, but that main group 100% was running a realistic Game 1 forward lineup, and both ended up on the outside looking in. If they don’t pick it up they both can end up back in Abbotsford, as guys like Studnicka have shown they’re a lot more hungry for that spot.

4th line and 3rd pair controversies don’t get me too excited. All five positions are up for grabs among a host of interchangeable parts. Tocchet is just trying to light a fire under Joshua. And please, the other active thread that craps on Jett Woo and then lists all the bottom pair defenders on the roster who are better? They aren’t that much better.

I watched the game on Monday night and have always thought he looked very replaceable as was the case on Monday and really didn’t understand tocchets high praise last yr.

Pods hopefully has a higher ceiling than Joshua so I think deserving a longer leash. I Thought hogs, raty, and suter were the best canucks in that game.

1st pre season game and the guys season is a bust

    Classic Canucks fan reaction.

    >some other factors

Seems rather ominous, no? I guess that could mean other players, but the cynical side of me worries what that means.

I was told that Joshua was taking it easy in pre-season because he had a position locked and that this is a normal thing not to criticize.

  13. NightHawkRambo

Good comment from Tocchet, cant let Joshua take his spot from last year for granted now.

I’d take Raty. Energy guy with lots of hustle.

Tocchett also w high praise for my boy Aman

  16. I’ll be the first one to say that the results don’t matter in the preseason. But the effort absolutely does, especially from guys who should be hungry for a bigger role. Joshua has a lot to offer so hopefully this kick in the ass wakes him up a bit.

I think Toch is giving him a “kick in the butt”. Joshua played as well as Podz, and Toch went to Podz’ defence in the media today. Joshua is the most physical player we have and has decent hands.

Podz needs confidence and I believe Toch thinks Joshua is the type of player who needs to be angry to play well (kinda like himself)

The start of last season, Joshua was the drizzling shits. He was terrible, he got better as the season got along but Tocchet is not gonna hold his hand this time. He needs to get better.

As frustrating as this is, I have to say that we really need a larger guy like Joshua to stick. Probably would have to justify bumping PDG though
