in this video the biggest thing that stands out to me is not how well he skated but how much he leaves himself open for a big hit when he crosses the blueline. he will have to keep an eye out for that. nhl players can really hit
Obviously if all he had was the shot, weâd be comparing him to a pure goal scorer like Mathewâs or something.
But weâre saying that we donât think weâll see another Bedard for at least 15-20 years. Quite a difference.
All the things you say are true. In fact all his fundamentals are fantastic.
But itâs his brain that makes him so good. And unfortunately the brain doesnât often make a spectacle of itself as would blinding speed or fluttering hands. IQ will always be the mother skill though. He simply understands more of whatâs within the realm of possibility than everyone else, and thatâs whatâs going to make him a star.
Gretzky was similar in that light. A long time season ticket holder of the Soo Greyhounds once commented when asked what it was like to watch Gretzky play junior by stating âyouâd never know he was on the ice until the goal light came on â
And thatâs what makes Bedard more than a great shot. Heâs just going to make the play that nobody else sees. Simple. And the points will mount up.

Of course Bedard is not going to be as explosively fast as Mcdavid but is it possible Bedard might be more maneuverable?

This is the only time I have ever heard somebody call Bedard a fast skater.
Dude youâre so spot on! I had to rewind the move he did to avoid Foligno-crazy awareness . Good video man!
I hope Bedard doesn't have to talk to any of the video coaches in Chicago. I remember those guys being reeeeal tough to deal with in the past.
Bedard is gonna get blown up
