  1. Hes a very unique players most goal scorers dont hit any where near as much as he does. He is the greatest winger of all time and the greatest goal scorer of all time.

React to McDavid next hes the best player in the world and the best skater ever.

  2. Ovi is likely going to break the record of goals in the nhl (894, held by wayne gretzky and long thought impossible to break). He’s at 822, and had there not been two lockouts and covid in his career would probably have already broken it. He is unique for not only being an intensely physical player (even at age 38 which he will be this upcoming season) but also having an incredible shot that goalies talk about how hard it is to defend against.

Those shots you saw him take from the left circle is his signature one-timer in his “office”. He’s scored over 200 goals from that spot, and holds the power play record goal already. Also holds the record for most 40 goal seasons right now (tied with another player who is retired) and could break it this year

  3. If you’re liking the long shots and accurate shots watch nhl best snipes, has tons of high quality slow motion clips of the best angles of the nastiest precision shots you’ll ever see

  4. Alex Ovechkin only has to score 73 goals to surpass Wayne Gretzky as the greatest goal scorer of all time in NHL history.

  5. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉True….I was as shocked to see Messi as I am with this guy🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

  6. There are a few players that have the speed and skill to match Ovi in some areas. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone play that skillfully and that physically. He is a fucking beast of a man.

  7. Also, your question there "what are you supposed to do against him?". Goalies and defenders have been asking that for a couple of decades also 🤣

  8. I’ve had the great luck of growing up in the DC area and getting to watch this guy play hockey in person.

Ovechkin is a unique player and definitely at least top 10 of all time, and a lot of people would argue top 5 as well. As a couple other commenters have said, he’s got 822 goals currently which puts him at 2nd all time, and will likely break the record within the next two season. Once players start getting to be 30+ in the NHL, there’s generally a drop off in production but Ovi has been fairly consistent his entire career. He’s also a bit of a genetic freak, in that he rarely get injured. In 18 seasons, he’s only missed 56 games, and only 32 of those are due to injury.

One of the craziest parts of Ovechkin’s game is his physical style of playing. He’s considered a power forward. He’s currently 4th in hits (3,471 hits in 1,347 games played). He’s now 38 (his birthday is the day that I’m writing this actually) and still pretty physical, though he’s a little more discerning about it now than when he was younger, where even his coaches thought he was a bit reckless.

One of my favorite quotes about playing against Ovi came from his former coach Bruce Budreau. When an interviewer asked Budreau how to play defense against a player like Ovechkin, his reply was “Ask him to stay off the ice. It’s not a matter of hitting; the more you hit him, he’s like the Hulk, he gets stronger. But at the same time you cannot give him the time and space to take a shot. He can beat you in so many different ways.”

Ovi is and was one of, if not the most entertaining players to watch throughout the 2000’s. Aside from the goal scoring and physicality, he’s one of the few players in the NHL that has an actual personality. He genuinely comes at the game with the joy of a little kid. He loves celebrating his goals, he loves celebrating his teammates goals, loves his team, and loves Washington DC. His Stanley Cup celebration was amazing (dubbed “the summer of Ovi”) and tbh every team after that’s won the cup has their celebrations compared to his. When the Capitals brought the Stanley Cup back to DC, he had the fans kissing and touching the cup because he wanted to give back the love they’d show him over the years.

I honestly feel so blessed to have one of the greatest players ever to be the captain of my home team and getting to watch sports history being made right on my doorstep. If you’re ever looking for anything else Ovechkin-related to react to I recommend “Gr8tness” (documentary) and “From Alex to Ovi” part 1, 2, and 3 here on youtube if you’d like to see more about him as a person. There’s also “Alex Ovechkin Destroying People for 4 Minutes Straight” on YouTube if you want to see more of his hits.

Just some other basics about him:

He’s Russian, and he chose to wear number 8 on his jersey in honor of his mother, who was a 2 time Olympic gold medal basketball player in the Soviet Union. His older brother Sergei passed away when Ovi was 10, and is the one who encouraged him to play hockey. He has Sergei’s name stitched into his glove and he kisses his glove and raises his hand to the sky when he scores a goal to honor his brother. His son is named after his brother, too. Ovi is also a career Washington Capital as he has played for them his entire time in the NHL and will retire with them as well (and will likely have his number retired there). He currently holds quite a few records already, including:

    – most power play goals (299)
    – most on-the-road goals (418)
    – Most goals by a left winger
    – Most points by a left winger
    – Most points by a Russian player
    – First Russian captain to win a Stanley cup
    – Most goals with the same team
    – all time point leader for the Washington Capitals

& there’s a lot more but these are the most relevant. Hope this answered some of your questions lol.
