Mathieu Joseph Proving To Be A Valuable Asset For Ottawa Senators + Training Camp: Day 7 Line Combos

The Ottawa Senators pre-season continues, unfortunately their perfect record is done as the Montreal Canadiens get the 4-3 win.

Brandon Piller and Ross Levitan break down the loss taking a look at Joonas Korpisalo’s Sens debut, players that struggled and Mathieu Joseph scoring two goals in his hometown! With Joseph having a good showing, does that change the narrative on how the Sens should dump some cap space to sign Shane Pinto? And we take a look at the newest line combinations from the Sens latest skate. We try to decipher what these line combinations may mean for the future of this roster.

  1. I hope to see from Claire Hanna, Ian Mendes, Graham Creech, Gord Miller, Mike Johnston & Craig Button!

  2. Serious question: If Toure, Imama and Joseph are all from Montreal, then they aren't African "American" are they?

  3. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" is where we are at with Joseph. Him playing well in a small sample size is exactly how he got into his bad contract in the first place. If the Sens decide not to trade him because of a couple exhibition games, shame on the Sens. Theres no way a first rounder is still required for someone to take Joseph's contract based on his training camp and no one is touching Branny after he was hemmed in his own end by 19 year old future AHLers half the night.

  4. – Sens top 6 in Montreal:
    Kubalík – Decent middle-six player
Joseph – Third-liner, only three goals last year
Bailey – PTO (not 'good enough' to have been offered a contract)
    Greig – Rookie
    Sokolov – Rookie
Smejkal – Has never played an NHL game

    – Habs top 6 included Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Slafkovsky.

    – Sens top D pairing wasBränny (third pairing guy) and Hamonic (fringe NHLer).

Basically, all I'm trying to say is; I'm completely fine with the preseason loss. lol I wasn't expecting much this game, icing our C team (not even B team). So to only lose by one, it is actually a pretty good outcome.

  5. Sens continue to play undisciplined. Kelly, in particular, stood out taking bad penalties.

  6. if add sweetener to trade Joseph or Branstrom or other, get back lower prospect or draft pick along with cap space?

  7. Ive been off the JBD bandwagon for a while. I have not seen anything that tells me he can be an impactful player at the NHL Level.

I like Branny, but I think that’s the guy that needs to go.

That dead cap space looks worse by the minute.

  8. No Ross. OK, I'm going to enjoy informing you of every point Debrincat scores this year, throughout the year. Sens gave away the possibility of drafting Korchinski to acquire Debrincat and Debrincat for the Sens is only a rental. It seems to be a very familiar story with the Sens, trading high draft picks/selections away for questionable assets.

Secondly, you're trading/giving away defensemen (Brannstrom), even to San Jose, when you have NO idea IF Chychrun can play 69 games, k. I'm guessing you're trying to explain the trade to make Sal Cap room. You have a problem, because game 69 falls after Trade Deadline, about 3 weeks. Trade Joseph away long before your defensemen, JBD is only 23. It isn't just the first round drafted defensemen you're talking about trading away, you've given White, Brown, not to mention trading your first round draft picks, first round pick to acquire debrincat, a second round pick to give up on a one year contract Zaitsev, then another 1st round draft pick plus to acquire a potentially damaged defenseman, remember you won't know until an honest 69 games has been played – kind of hard if you were trying to explain making playoffs to me (upwards to as many as 110 games).

  9. Pierre Dorion trying to sell hard on Jarventie as the sweetner. Only 27 less goals then Debrincat last year.

  10. It feels like you guys are ignoring the comments that have been made about the Sens' new system so that you can complain about Chabot and Tarasenko being on their off sides. The reason for them being on their offsides has been discussed publicly more than once. Also you guys spoke SO positively about Jarventie moving to C last year so why is it so crazy that he is C now?

  11. Last goal on Korpi was kinda soft but you cant blame him on the others
Big question, does Vasilesky being out 2 months + Stamkos upset about no contract = Sens taking their playoff spot?

  12. I still say guys like Lassi and JBD are going to help BSens get a calder….

  13. Just tell Meth to not wear that burgandy suit again. My wife was ready to kick me to the curb. Son of a…
