Slaf was not my choice before the draft, but when Habs picked him, it’s like he’s part of that familly now, and all I want is for him to have the best possible outcome for his carreer.
I get that some people can be underwhelmed for a number one pick, but still love the guy and his attitude, not to mention there’s evident potential there.

People can be fans in any way they choose, but I find it absolutely ridiculous when people constantly rag on Slafkovsky and call him a bust after less than 50 games in the NHL. I don’t really know of any prospects outside of bona-fide generation talents like Crosby and McDavid that had immediate impacts on their respective teams. This toxic attitude of ‘Slaf didn’t score a spinorama hat trick in a preseason game, we should have drafted Cooley!’ or ‘Slaf is just KK 2.0’ is precisely why we get a bad rap as fans. Why don’t we have some faith in our coaching and development staff? It looks like we finally have a good framework in place to develop our prospects, so why don’t we give it a minute before we jump to absolute conclusions. Slaf has all the tools to be a legitimate superstar in this league. He’s definitely still a raw prospect but with a little bit of fine-tuning he can develop into a serious force of nature. Let’s be patient for a change. I have faith in our coaching and development and I have a good feeling that Slaf will become a fan favorite.

I’ve been on record since before the draft that I preferred one of the 2 centers because I thought that was a more pressing need. I was sad Romy left, but getting Dach helped out on that front. So it made the Slaf pick easier to take for me.
Having said that: when the kid is here, root for him to succeed. Because if he does, the team does.
Calling “bust” at 39 games doesn’t make you a knowledgeable person. It makes you sound like a contrarian idiot whose only source of worth resides in other people’s discontent because your brain stopped developing at 12. If you’re 12, that’s okay. We’ve all been there. But development shouldn’t be only for the prospects. Some fans could use some as well.

Can you imagine being an 18 year old from another country where English or French is not your primary language, and being thrust into a place that is literally a lion’s den of negativity and positivity all at once? Going from one end of the planet to the other and having millions of people watch and criticize your every move? Know more about you than you do in some cases?
I feel for the kid and the fact that he has maintained such a good attitude so far is highly impressive. He has the tools to be clutch and productive when it matters most, I just hope the world around him doesn’t take that away from him completely.

You could see his confidence shoot through the roof when he makes a good play. He just needs time to cook and solid ice time and he’s going to be a great asset.
